I know there is only 1x pool so was wondering what the likelihood of being able to use it is?
Also, how many people are allowed in the room with you? My partner will definitely be there, but also wondering if my Mum is allowed to be there too?
Thanks!

Conoce más sobre nuestras reglas.I'm at Tameside but if you haven't already it might be worth asking them if they have blow up pools to use in the other rooms. I was told that Tameside have a few blow up ones for if the nice suites aren't able to be used
Following this post bc I literally have been meaning to ask this exact question all day 😭😂
Hi there, they only have one pool suite. If you're being monitored and everything is well you can use the birthing pool suite if it is available. However, I wanted to use the birthing pool for my delivery and they said no cause I have was induced and baby had to be monitored all the time
@Chelsea ah that’s a great idea! I’ll definitely ask, thank you!☺️
You really wouldn’t know until the day! Wythenshaw have more pools, same hospital trust, might be worth a look if that’s what you want
@Vanessa Thanks for the info Vanessa ☺️ If you don’t mind me asking, did you have a good experience at St.Marys?
@Paige 😂🙌🏼 I’ve been meaning to ask for ages but as I’m out of the borough my midwife doesn’t know too much about st Mary’s!
Yes I did, the place is clean, friendly and well informed. And do not be afraid to ask the same question more than once to whomever.. I found that the more I ask the more well informed I am about my birth and delivery and postpartum
My midwife told me that the pool is there but it breaks often or is not available so not to really super count on it.
@Abby thanks for sending the pic Abby ☺️! Was there a reason why you couldn’t use the pool?
If you don’t mind me asking, did you have a good experience at St. Mary’s?
@Emma thanks Emma! My midwife did say Wythenshawe has more pools, but I’m very indecisive and already swapped once from Stepping Hill to St.Marys🙈!
I was split between going to St Mary on Oxford road (1 pool room) vs Northern Hospital (they have birthing centre with 2 pool rooms, their birthing centre is really nice, you can get a tour of it if u contact them ). I opted for Northern Hospital just because there was higher chance of me getting a pool room however on the day they were so short staff that they were sending ladies to different hospitals. When I arrived at Oxford Road I was lucky enough to be given pool room - it was free and the pool was working 🍀
I had my baby 7 weeks ago at wythensawe hospital and the care there was absolutely horrendous! That’s putting it lightly I wouldn’t even send a dog there to have puppies ! Me and baby had reactions to the pessaries quite severely they took me to delivery to try slow down the contractions otherwise I would’ve needed a c-section (i was induced) then I tell the doctors I don’t want the third they agree, to then the same doctor coming back an hour later telling me to take the 3rd pessary because there’s a lady infront of me waiting to have her waters broken, I was being sent to different wards with no plan of care (this was confirmed to us by the ward manager) and the midwives were so degrading to me as a young mum telling me false information how apparently “you don’t dialate in bed” and they didn’t want to check my cervix because they didn’t want to “bring on contractions” (naturally). Best thing to happen to that place is close down! I have my labour debrief on Friday and I’m putting
A complaint into pals and sorting about a maternity negligence claim. Also forgot about being left on the monitor for 4hrs straight no one checking me, and being left in a bay for 12 hours and no one checking on me at all not even doing my obvs or babies after having the first pessary 👏👏👏👏
And that 12 hrs starts from 8am not through the night.
@Millie i had to be continuously monitored due to being induced so couldn’t use the pool😢 the staff were lovely but it’s very doctor led sometimes so it can feel medicalised very quick..but on the plus side they are equipped to deal with every possible outcome/emergency. postnatal was a bit disappointing, felt very forgotten about and barely had anyone come in to check on me.
i have also worked in st mary’s for a few years before having my son, as a student midwife and maternity support worker so i was very familiar with it and knew what to expect.
Hi, if you are booked at st Mary’s you are able to use the birth centre at Wythenshawe without transferring as they are classed as one trust. You just ring the birth centre when you’re in labour or your waters break. The birth centre has more pools available. If you’re low risk that is probably a better place to be as st Mary’s delivery unit is quite medicalised and like others have said the one pool room is often occupied and the pool rarely works. They do a tour at Wythenshawe birth centre. You could always book onto that and have a look around!
I think they closed the pools at st Mary’s - I asked my midwife a few weeks ago and they said they went to a more clinical approach and all the pools went to whythenshawe
Such a useful post. I decided on Oxford Road as it’s closer and I liked the idea of them being able to deal with emergencies. But the more I read about it, it feels like environment in Wythenshawe is what I’d appreciate. I booked a tour at the end of June
