Hi, I’m 16+2 today and pregnant with my 2nd child.
I’ve been struggling with some sickness on a morning/evening and with the constant feeling of nausea. I was put on antisickness at my 12 week scan/consultant appointment. I’m still feeling nauseous and sick. The sickness has prevented me from attending work twice in the past 5 weeks (2 days off each absence).
I mentioned that I was still feeling nauseous to my midwife at my 16 week appointment. She sent a request for different antisickness at my 16 week midwife appointment.
I got a phone call from a doctor yesterday asking me to give them more information about the conversation that I had with the midwife. I did.
He then said that he was only issuing the new antisickness for 5 days. He also informed me that there was a small risk that the baby could develop a cleft palate if I took them. He also told me that I was coping well. I felt a bit invalidated by this. It’s incredibly hard to cope when you have the consent feeling of wanting to be sick.
I’m obviously not going to take the antisickness at all now.
To anyone on antisickness, were you told about possible risks as specific as this? Im
Too scared to take them. I’m at a point now where I don’t want to take anything and have come the the conclusion that I’m just going to have to continue to deal with the nausea and this sickness as best as I can without any antisickness help.
What’s your experience with doctors/GP prescribing antisickness?

Conoce más sobre nuestras reglas.Hey :). I've been suffering really bad from sickness / nausea. My GP never mentioned anything about risks etc. Not sure if you know this charity https://pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/?fbclid=PAY2xjawIBeMJleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABpnhD0CMnon2wgIQCXqWRjrbtbphVr4jGiFKlFFM055wa5Mjw_2UfhZrQTQ_aem_1-SEaJmECkd4rw37LFH3ag
They are really good and offer WhatsApp support etc and guide you on how to advocate for yourself with the gp and what medication you can ask for :)
@Jenny thank you! I didn’t know about this! Xxx
No problem! You can also message me if you'd like to talk about it :). I'm currently on some medication for it
Oh my gosh, what an awful experience you’ve had. I had horrendous sickness in my first trimester. I took 3 cyclizine a day, that got it under control but didn’t cure it. I managed with this and it got better after 11 weeks but still have my moments. Certain foods I have to avoid like chocolate, greasy food and baked beans!
The only side effects I heard of with cyclizine is constipation and a couple of others, none that would affect baby 😮💨
I think it’s ondestateron that has the risk of cleft lip. It’s a great antisickness med. I’m on Xonvea with my sickness and nausea which has really helped and limited potential side effects x
I might be naive but at 16 weeks wouldn't the baby have already formed their cleft palate? I would think it would only be early on before 12 weeks where the development of baby hasn't finished yet that could be an issue... maybe a question to ask
By 16 weeks the palate is already formed, so no worries. That’s my understanding anyway
Interesting…I was never told this. I’ve obviously received unhelpful advice. I’ll be going to see another GP. Thanks for your replies x
