Baby Babbling

My little boy has just turned 8 months old but he doesn’t seem to be babbling at all yet and is fairly quiet… he says sounds like “ahhh” and blows raspberries but doesn’t say “ma/ga/da” sounds. He is currently in the process of learning to crawl (gets very frustrated when he can’t do it) and is almost there and he has started to try and pull to stand. I just wondered if anyone else’s little ones are in the same boat?

I am always trying to encourage him by making the noises myself but he’s not interested in copying just yet 😂I know all babies learn new skills at different stages but just curious to see if anyone is going through something similar.

My little boy is 8 months and babbles but no signs of words yet whereas my 7 month old niece shouts mum clear as day all day😂

Same here! It’s easy to compare to others. But i’ve learnt to try not to. It will come

it’s just hard not to worry isn’t it! He has hit / hitting all other milestones so that is giving me some reassurance! I was babbling to him tonight and he was just laughing at me and blowing raspberries, so it’s like he understands what I am doing?😂

My 8 month old girl is really vocal but no effort or desire to crawl, pull or even roll back to front despite lots of encouragement. I think they do what they want when they want and seem to prioritise moving or vocalising!

My son is exactly the same! I could sit all day long saying ‘dada/mama’ etc and he will just blow raspberries in my face 🤣

They will get there eventually, just obviously more focused on moving about rather than having a chat! I am the worst for comparing but I just need to stop 😂

So stressful though isn’t it! My baby is fairly quiet too. I’ve made a doctor’s appointment.

it is very stressful! I’m trying not to stress too much because he does make sounds, just not the ma da ga sounds yet! He does also engage with us by laughing at what we do and looking at us. He’s just more interested in moving around and exploring 😅😂 they will do it in their own time but just have to encourage them by copying the sounds that they make x

hi Katie, any update with your baby’s babbling?

he’s still saying “ahhh” mostly! There’s the odd occasion where I think I’ve heard him say like the “ma” sound but I can’t be sure! I spoke to the health visitor and she said she isn’t concerned in the slightest because he is still making sounds. She also said that he may not feel the need to talk because we are so reactive to him. She basically advised me to try gentle sabotage to try and get him to speak I.e instead of handing him milk / water straight away, say milk or water to try and get him to react. She said that all babies are different (as we all know!) and they don’t become concerned with speech until about 2.5 years old

ah thank you so much for your reply, Katie! That helps a lot. My boy also does the ‘ahhh’ sound a lot as well as screaming! And other sounds just not the repeated babbling. Also think I’ve heard ‘ma’ here and there but I’m not sure if I’m over thinking it! He’s our first, so we are definitely very reactive to him, so I’ll try the gentle sabotage as well!
