I've made a similar post before, but hoping for more insight. We have really limited space at home and planning to move to a bigger house in a few months, but baby is outgrowing his bedside crib. I'm from South Africa where it's pretty common for people to use a travel cot (they call them camp cots) as a permanent sleep space and to use a well-fitted cot mattress in it at home. The "camp cot mattresses" are even marketed as such, all the while giving safe sleep guidance on the packaging.
It seems that here in the UK this is not commonplace, presumably for safety concerns? We were visiting grandparents in SA recently and we had LO in a "camp cot" with a new mattress and he slept amazingly. I really couldn't see the safety concern.
Does anyone have any thoughts on a suitable travel cot I could use at home for a few months? And if the mattress isn't really comfy for long term use, thoughts on buying a well-fitted cot mattress to put inside? The reason I'm interested in a travel cot and not a solid cot (including space saver) is because we'll need one anyway and things are getting really costly! We'll invest in a good cot bed when we move.
Thoughts appreciated 😊

Personally if a travel cot is being sold as a cot how can it not be ok to be used all the time?! They don’t say how long the “trip” should be. How can some pram bassinets be ok to be used as a cot but not a travel cot?! Do what’s best for you! X

They're fine to use all the time if you want to. It's common to use them downstairs once babies outgrow a Moses basket. Which tbh is about 5 mins as Moses baskets are pretty pointless!
