Hip pain - looking for suggestions

Hello moms,

I’m 9 weeks pregnant 🤰🏼 and from the last one week my hips have some real bad ache. Feels like muscular pain, but it’s real bad. I have a feeling when I sleep side ways it causes immense pain.

Any ideas on best way to sleep, use of pillow, what type of pillow etc.
I’m worried coz I’m in my 1s trimester, wonder how it will be in 3rd trimester

Please guide me

Definitely ask for physio I’d recommend pregnancy yoga and pillow between the knees. It’s a pregnancy hormone that relaxes the muscles to make room for baby but shows up any weakness. I’ve had a bad back and pelvis for years so really struggled though pregnancy. Hope you get some improvement

Go to a chiropractor that does prenatal adjustments! I went throughout my entire pregnancy and it helped so much. It can also help your labor go much better. 👍

I got a u shaped pregnancy pillow and I wrap my legs around it at night to give my hips some space so I can sleep on my side comfortably. I think mine is the Meiz from Amazon, and I bought the 63 inch so it extends from my head to my ankles (I’m 5’6)

So glad I started super early before I knew I was having twins because my hips ain’t lying about the pain now at 11w with these life sucking tater tots 😵😵

Also don’t forget that your body is starting to produce relaxin (hormone that Sarah mentioned) which can loosen muscles/ligaments and cause some discomfort. Totally normal if not really annoying. Be gentle with your stretching :)

I had pain in my first trimester also and was super clueless about it. It went away a little bit later on but it’s started to come back harder after around 20 weeks. Turning at night or getting out of bed in the morning is hell!! I usually use a pillow between my legs, also make sure it’s tall enough so it’s opening your legs enough. Sometimes I also put it out in front a little bit and stretch my leg out over it, whichever one side I’m on. Another tip, before you try to move or roll over at ALL, make sure you engage your lower abdomen muscles. Try to “tighten” your abdomen as if you were sucking it in, do it a little bit kind of like in and out a couple times and it should ease movement. Just basically engage the muscles before. You can also try massaging gently a little bit around the (groin I think it’s called?) before as well.

Sleep with a pillow between your legs! My hips always hurt when I don't.

I’m 8 months pregnant with sore hips and I use a lot of firm pillows in bed with the upper leg resting on one long pillow, instead of the other leg, and I do yoga, which definitely helps take the edge off - the pain seems to be worse when I haven’t done yoga that day.

I had some hip pain in early pregnancy, especially in bed and first thing in the morning but it eased off after a few weeks. I am 22 weeks now and it hasn't returned at the moment but i realise it might do later in pregnancy. I use a pillow between my legs and also have a pregnancy pillow which helps

Definitely try to stretch as much as you can. I had really bad siatic nerve pain around 10 weeks. I have a detachable shower head so I would run the water hot and put the jet setting on and run that along my leg and butt cheek probably twice a day and that helped a lot

1. Go to a physio and ask for exercises
2. Do pregnancy yoga
3. Walk for 20 min every day
4. Sleep on your back for now, while it's still safe.
