Hi, I’m a FTM with a 13m old daughter and she started nursery 1.5months ago for 2 days a week and has been ill with 2 flu viruses and a stomach bug back to back since. Me and my husband also get them and have been really struggling as we hadn’t been this ill in so long. I knew they pick up all sorts of bugs at nursery and that they need to build their immune system but at this rate, I feel like will it ever end? I read in some places it continues like this for a year?! Is that right?
I work from home and I feel like I’m not able to get as much work done than when I used to look after her and work at the same time. So is it even worth her going to nursery? When she’s not ill, she does like the social interaction but she’s probably only been fully herself in the first 1-2 weeks of going.
Any advice and past experiences greatly appreciated! X

Unfortunately the answer is yes …. When they are small like that they catch every virus possible…. In my case my son started nursery with 17 months and If I would back there I would change my mind and put him at 24 months. He’s still catch virus but much better as he’s bigger .

i work in a nursery and it’s completely normal, they get ill for so long after starting nursery (not all, but most kids). i remember when i started working in a nursery, i kept getting ill for like a year straight it was a nightmare but i built up immunity and so do the kids 🤣 just one of those annoying things at first xxx

Yep, my son started nursery at 9 months, and we had a rough year, but now it's here and there. The main thing i love about the nursery they teaching him how to dress, speak, and use an open cup just to name a few. He also has loads of other activities, and he's is excelling really well. Nursery is less for social more for the professional help with their development.

My sons been at nursery for 6 months now and he stills gets ill every week/2 weeks 😩 x

My daughter started at the same time and it’s actually so depressing we’ve been ill constantly one thing during another it feels like and we have a 16 month old who seems to be picking it all up worse 😭 I can’t deal with it , I just want to pull her out at this point 🥹 hopefully the next few months are kinder 🤞

This is normal and will last on and off for a year.. we are on year 3 in nursery and he has hardly been sick this year. It does get better!

The GP told me that for the first 3 months it will be constant and then it gets less frequent and she was right. Like your child you will also build immunity
