If you want to make your own baby food I really like the little baby ninja food maker! Also the app solid starts has been great at answering questions I’ve had!

We made ours in the beginning too now about 80/20 it’s easier to have store sold to take in the diaper bag.

But I found that peas bananas sweet potatoes and spinach with apple are my little ones favs

Now he also eats wheat bread, cheese, fish , chicken, ( he didn’t like red meat when we offered it.

My pediatrician said offer him everything even eggs and peanutbutter ( ask yours every situation is different) introduce one new questionable food every 4-7 days so if they do have an issue with it you know exactly what caused it.

In the beginning we offered purées now he eats some things whole like peas and blueberries and bites off strawberries and soft pear

Best wishes and have fun

I highly highly recommend Solid Starts!! I did baby led weaning for the most part. Just be prepared for the mess - like you know it's going to be messy but the level of mess is crazy (I have a 15 month old and it's only gotten worse 😂). I have WIC so I ended up with purees and didn't make my own except for applesauce (so easy to make and really good fresh), but for BLW I really only used the purees as ingredients in other things or mixing with yogurt and a nut butter (tastes like PB & j without added sugar). I think having a variety of frozen vegetables on hand is really convenient. You can microwave small portions until they're safely soft while not worrying about larger quantities going bad (mine loved broccoli from the beginning, I think it was an exciting texture for her plus it's easy to hold). Other than that the healthier you eat the easier it is since you can just introduce the ingredients of whatever you're eating.

Also I would recommend not doing sweet potato, carrot, or rice too frequently. Sweet potato, carrot, and other root vegetables have higher levels of heavy metals (not a brand issue, they just absorb it easily from the ground) and rice (even infant rice cereal) has arsenic. We stuck to oats and other grains for baby cereal and only made rice dishes to share on occasion. If your LO has a varied diet it should be fine though (no need to 100% avoid)

The solid starts site was helpful to us. I'm the pickiest eater ever and I wanted to do anything I can to avoid what happened to me with my son. He never ate purees and only did solid food at his pace. We used the guidelines of solid starts to see how to cut it and he is the best eater at 4 years old. He wasn't ready to start until about 8 months though so 6 months is just a guideline
