Not sure what to expect for my 16w midwife appt next week and whether my husband should come? Do you get to hear the baby’s heartbeat? We haven’t heard ours so far only seen it 🥹

Yes you should hear the heartbeat through a Doppler machine. Your midwife will also do a general check on you to make sure you’re doing okay and take you through your appointment schedule for the remainder of your pregnancy ☺️
Some places don’t check the heartbeat anymore, I didn’t get that at mine.
Also she just asked me a few questions and took a urine sample and blood pressure. Added a growth chat into my file
Urine dip, blood pressure, asked me if I was OK. A lot of places don't offer doppler for heartbeat anymore sadly! I was in and out in 10 mins xx
I didn’t get to hear my babies heart beat. I did with my first but I think it’s changed now, the midwife said they don’t listen until after 20 weeks
My partner only comes to the scans as not much else happens at the midwife appointments. If you do get to hear the baby's heartbeat, just ask to record it on your phone then your partner can hear it later on
My husband didn't come to my 16 week midwife appointment but I got to hear the heartbeat. This was at Alton Community hospital but I know that not every hospital does it
Blood pressure, urine sample, asked how i was/any concerns. Went through blood samples & asked how my 12 week scan went. Pretty uneventful 😊 sadly no listening to babies' heartbeat, but I never had that in my last pregnancy, so I'm guessing my area just don't do it
No Doppler for me either, the midwife said it’s because there are lots of reasons at that stage of pregnancy that they might not hear the heartbeat (baby is so small and could be hiding), so rather than cause unnecessary concern they generally only offer it after 24 weeks.
So I've just got home from my 16 week appt. Basically had a chat, asked the usual questions how you feel, how your emotions have been, do you feel safe at home ect ect. Checked blood pressure and took bloods (iron was raised last time so repeat test) then I asked about the heartbeat and she said we can try today if you want to. So got to hear the heartbeat 💓 x
I had mine today I’m 16+4 weeks got to hear the heartbeat and I brought my partner with me I definitely think you could bring them I also got to record it on my phone x
I think it depends on your trust and pathway I’m on a consultant led pathway with pregnancy support x
I just had mine today! It is quick. Just ask you how you are, urine sample, blood pressure. General checks. I didn’t get to hear a heartbeat. Looks like it depends on the area! She said they don’t like to do this at 16 weeks now, as the baby is so small and if they are unable to detect a heartbeat, it doesn’t always mean anything is wrong but causes worry for the mother. Which I do understand as it would to me! I know it’s difficult to have to wait. I have only had the 12 weeks scan. It feels like a tough stage!
No need for partner to come with you for this appt!
Mine was a little bit longer as I have opted for a home birth.
She ran through all of my information that was done in the booking appointment so that she was familiar with it all as she will be my midwife for the birth (🤞🏻). Urine sample and blood pressure. Talked about 12 week scan, blood test results and future appointments. I did get to listen to the heartbeat which seems the norm in my trust.
Thanks everyone for the info! Anyone here in Durham/Darlington or North Tyneside trust?
I live in Hartlepool
Just had mine.. they checked BP and urine. Asked how I was if I had any questions or concerns. Discussed my booking bloods and nuchal scan results and told me about my next 2 MW appts. I was told at booking that I couldn’t bring anyone with me for the 16 week appt so hubby dropped me off and I went in alone. Was in & out in 30mins. They told my they listen in to baby at the 25 week appt..
Mine was half hour I emailed before to check about Doppler mine does do it. Also said with the anxiety after loss of I was anxious I could email and they will let me come in to hear heartbeat between appointments. Asked how I was and that was about it.
I’m 17 weeks and a bit
