If No,why? If yes how do they take it? Do they ever agree to negotiate you maybe starting 30mins later. I’m trying to put myself out there as most of the work I’ve done has been on a self taught, self employed basis.
I remember once during a job interview I mentioned I’m a mother and I could see the manager was put off.
So just wondering if I should leave out that I’m a parent.

Learn more about our guidelines.I wouldn't mention it unless they bring it up to be honest! But if you are already going to ask them to make allowances for you because you have children then you will have to tell them.
I wouldn’t mention it as it’s not relevant. Unless you’re trying to look after a child during the same hours you’re meant to be working (do not recommend!) then whether you have kids or not has nothing to do with the job.
So true. I will make sure I won’t mention it, I’ve had to schedule phone calls whilst the kids are at school. just so the kids are not in the background
Don’t mention it and then negotiate the hours when they offer the job to suit your needs xx
Personally I had two interviews recently- ( I did get offered both)
I was upfront that I had two children
- I actually made a statement that for me I didn’t want anymore going forward if that was a concern
(That’s me I have found for now 2 is enough 😂)
For me I am very upfront and wanted to make sure I get it with them knowing rather than try and spring anything later.
Nope, I wouldn’t mention it! With me I got the job, did the first 6 months (hours weren’t ideal but had alot of help from family for that period) then after 6 months, passed my probation then put a flexible working request in so I could start 30 minutes later and take my son to breakfast club x
Don't mention it, then negotiate one you've received the job offer. They shouldn't discriminate but that doesn't mean they won't x
@Caroline Love the approach you took, very smart!!
@Becky Makes perfect sense!!
@Georgette That’s hilarious 😂 your brave!! I wouldn’t want to mention it seeing as what happened the last time but I’m glad it worked out well for you in the end.
I recently applied for a job, told them in the interview that my son is my priority. I got the job and the manager has been incredible working out my hours to ensure it fits well with my family needs x
I’ve never had an interview that’s required talking about my personal life. I’d never bring it up and once offered a position then discuss requirements etc xx
I generally agree with the above. Once they’ve offered you the job, that’s your chance to effectively interview them, so then you can ask about flexible working, introduce yourself more thoroughly etc.
