My baby is 8months old and I’m starting to think about potty training and when is a good age. What age did you train or are you planning on training your babies?

@Beth can I ask why summer? Xx
I'm planning on starting just before she turns 2, that's when she will move up a room at nursery and they have little toilets and stuff in the 2-3 room for potty training etc.
@Ezme doesn't have to be summer but it may help as you can keep them naked from waist down when at home to potty train
@Rebecca that makes so much sense! Thank you x
I introduced a potty into the bathroom when she was about 15 months old as she always followed me in. Did her first wee In it at 18 months and was fully potty trained by 2.5 months 😊
@Ezme my little girl is 20 months and I’m staring it in a few weeks/summer because that way I can leave her without a nappy on at home/in the garden and constantly encourage the use of a potty, just seems best in my opinion x
My son is 2 years and 3 months, and he hasn’t showed signs that he’s ready yet so im not pushing it!
But he doesn’t go to daycare also! Which could be a contributing factor for a lot of parents to start as soon as possible
@Em ✨ this is a genius idea. My son is 14 months and poops 3-5 times a day and hes a size 7 so those diapers are sooooo costly rn, i just keep running through it so quickly! I’m so done that i’ve already talked to my mom about potty training at an early age 😂😂
@Aolani oh definitely! He will pick it up quickly im sure!!
@Ezme because then you can do it on the garden all day and if they have no clothes on there’s no rush! We started just by doing mornings with nothing on his bottom half so we could still have a life and go out, by the second week we were doing all day with just pants on, and then third week we could go out for the whole day and he’d cracked it (give or take a couple accidents of course) but the portable potty’s are a lifesaver!x
Whenever they’re ready! My little girl is 2.5 and she’s been ready a while. I was waiting until I was off work on maternity leave and it clicked straight away for her. Barely any accidents x
My little boy is 2yrs 4 months and he only did his first wee on the potty yesterday! We've been trying with him for months but we didn't enforce because I knew he wasn't ready. We've just encouraged. He took himself to his potty and did a wee then shouted for his dad to help him. The childminder tried with him all day yesterday but she didn't have any luck. I'm going to have a few days with him next week to see how he gets on but we're nearly ready to fully potty train
My daughter was around 1 but she showed all the signs of being ready so it was easy! I have a nephew who’s 2 and is still in diapers and just isn’t ready
I waited until 3 with my cautious and sensitive boy. Tried a couple of times after 2, but he wasn’t ready and he got really upset. Charts. Gold coins. Made it so much worse. So took the pressure off and tried again at 3. He took to it right away. No accidents at all.
It depends if it’s a boy or a girl. Boys will usually learn later than girls. Your baby will let you know when they’re ready!! Even if it’s a girl, 12 months is a good time to start to see if they’re ready!!
@Katie boys definitely train later than girls I’ve noticed!! Which of course totally okay!
We also did summer closest to age 2. Because it is definitely easier to start with lots of outside time so there is less cleanup. Also, less clothes. When we did outings we started with a potty on the back of the car. As it got colder it was more difficult to do that because we would stand with the trunk open and son would get cold and not be able to go. (Another reason summer was a good time to start).
My child was one and half when she left the nappies every child is different , my child started to hate wearing wet nappies so I then got her to pants and then once she wet her pants that was it she never done it again she loved the thought of the potty but she didn’t like how it didn’t flush so she didn’t last long on a potty I had to buy a proper seat for my toilet and she loved the thought of flushing the toilet and it going away 🤣 and that was it really. She just didn’t like her poo being in her potty.
Nursery’s want your child potty trained before nursery they were over the moon to hear our little one was potty trained at 1 and half she went to nursery age 2 / 2 and half only because I do nights and didn’t need to go to nursery as such
@Nicole I noticed that too! My nephew will ask for a diaper change but refuses to use the potty so he’s just being stubborn 😅
Many people have their babies potty trained by 1. I did but stoped because I was pregnant.. my boy still remembers but because he is older it’s hard as he has grown so we going to wait till he is 5 when he is more independent to be able to take himself and clean himself.
