My almost 12mo old used to sleep 8:30-8:00 and take one 1.5-3hr nap but recently his naps have been 30mins to 45mins and he wakes up in the middle of the night wanting to be held. Last night it took almost 3hrs to get him back down because he would cry/ scream as soon as I set him down š« is this age a typical sleep regression stage or?

Yeah there are multiple stages where your baby will go through a sleep regression
This is completely normal for a 1yo! There is a 12 month sleep regression and it can last between 2-6 weeks. Weāve literally just come out of it (fingers crossed). It took 6 weeks for our boy to come out of it. He was awake every night from 1 till 4am and then up for the day at 7ish. He wouldnāt go back to sleep no matter what we tried. His nap stayed the same though at 2ish hours. I have no advice, Iām so sorry! Just know that youāre not alone and that itās normal and it WILL pass. Letting him wake up during those hours to play calmly in a darkish room helped us massively as we werenāt having to rock him for 3hrs (which is basically a work out!) so Iād suggest trying that. Heās now sleeping better than he ever has. Wishing you good luck and that it only lasts 2 weeks for you!
@Megan oh gosh ok, good to know itās normal haha thanks!! Hoping itās only 2 weeks too š„² Iām also in my first trimester pregnant with my second so Iāve been exhausted ALL day lol. He never really had a sleep regression except for the classic 4mo one that I swear lasted like two months š«
@Nataly iām currently going through it too .I'm just cruising like a cute zombie .My husband is cooking all meals and I'm keeping the house Clean.
So that everyone can stay sane.
He is teething,(has 9 teeth) ,he is saying words like mama /Dada and all that bubbling, he is running-walking so I'm telling myself he is just developing things which might affect his sleep.
Hang in there love , I was up last night from 3pm to 5pm š¤¦š¾āāļø
@Coffy 2:30-5am here so at least we were up together šš
Absolutely and then is 18 months
Sleep regressions are normal at 4 months, 8 months, 10 months, 12 months, 18 months, and 2 years. There are also 3-4 other sleep regressions between 3-8 years old but development timelines are different enough between kids it's harder to predict. Sleep regressions are very normal and anywhere from 3-14 days are very normal, and up to 30 days is not uncommon, depending on the regression. Going through the 18 month regression with my son rn, taking 4 hours to get him down for bed the last few days. Typing this from his bedside, keeping him company till he falls asleep so he won't just scream himself hoarse, since he's decided he doesn't want to be held/cuddled but doesn't want to be alone
@Tagmayne Ahhh good to know, thanks!! My son will be 18mo when his sibling is born so at least I know to expect it. Best of luck to you, hopefully itās a short regression š«¶
@Nataly most regressions are caused by learning new skills and jumps in cognitive ability (hence their predictability), but also can be triggered by big life events. My son was 6 months old when we moved 5 hours from where we used to live, and it was a big change for him, triggering a short regression and a scrambling up of his napping schedule. Then more recently I had surgery when he was about 14 months old, so I wasn't able to do his night time routine with me, so he and papa had to find a whole new routine. A new sibling can absolutely cause one too, so that one might be a bit of a double whammy, I'm sorry.
And yeah I hope so. We're on day 4 if I'm not mistaken? Hopefully we're able to get to the other side of this shortly
