Has anyone had an epidural before?
I gave birth last week Saturday
Once they put the needle in my back before putting on the epidural I needed to push and then the baby came so I end up having the needle in but not the epidural medicine!! I was so annoyed but she had told me I was only 2-3 cm dilated and next minute you know I needed to push in a hour
The question is I have bad nerve like back pain can’t pick anything heavy!
I know it’s only need a week but does this pain get better? I’ve got a two year old and I can’t even hold him.
I’m so worried I’m going to be stuck with this pain

If i remember right, the first dose of the epidural is given straight after the needle goes in? Or is that wrong? (Feel free to correct that)
But with the lifting, its generally advised to not lift anything heavier than your newborn for the first few weeks, so your toddler would most likely be too heavy anyway?
But as Chloe said, definitely get some pain meds for it anyway. If anything it might just help take the kick away from it.
How long do you think it will take to get better? Or will I alway suffer from this now I’ll get meds xx
@Nayaab on average 1-2 weeks, I haven’t experienced this so can’t base it on me. You shouldn’t but there’s a possibility you can have back pain for longer up to months but that’s rare . But you should get in touch with your doctor so they can monitor how you get on and give the appropriate care needed
I had a spinal block and the same thing… someone told me caffeine helps. Not sure how or why but I drank cola for it x
I've had a natural med free birth for my first and my second, last time I got an epidural at 7cm and honestly, didn't need to. To me, the contractions are worse than the actual birth , and by the time I got one I mind as well of just powered through it. Due in 2 mo and I'm not getting one! And to be fair, I needed 12 stitches with my natural birth and it wasn't world ending.
@Nayaab Id say a few weeks for the general pain (you did just give birth of course so take it easy!)
But for the back pain? It surely cant be forever. It has to heal at some point. It might even heal at the same rate as your other bits. :)
It does go away, but it doesn’t all the way go away. I’ve had the epidural twice and I wish I could tough it out through it, but I couldn’t. My back issues from the first time was not that bad but after the second time I have shooting pains.
