Reading at three

How’s everyone doing with teaching their LOs to read? Mine shows absolutely no interest in books but will engage with me with charts and flash cards.

My son doesn’t even know the whole alphabet, we’re no where near reading yet.

Not going to put that pressure on him. My 5 year old isn’t even reading yet.

Oh okay. She knows the alphabet and can identify capital and lowercase letters. She knows and can identify numbers and number words. She also knows her colors, simple shapes and emotions. We’re currently working on quantity. I was trying to figure out how to build her vocabulary. She’s smart and definitely learns on her terms I’m just trying to learn where I can poke around and where to let her be.

My son started reading at 2. We introduced him to the alphabet before he was 1. One he learned that we let him watch YouTube shows that spells words out on the screen. We just do what ever is fun to him. Try making up games that will interest her

@Jasz got it! I kinda figured I’d have to give in and let it be something electronic. I don’t think I’m fun enough to keep her engaged 😩

my child is reading entire easy books at 3 right now. sentence after sentence. i am hobestly ahocked as is dad gramma and her teachers but we really focused on readi g 30 mons every night since birth and prioritized it. we did abc flashcards and then word flashcards and taught the sounds so it just paid off. also a small thing you can do too is just put closed captioning on when theyre watching tv. the most important is reading though every day and making it a fun special engaging time.
