Baby hates carrots

We’re on day two of carrots, and my baby seems to really dislike it and is gagging. Can I give him some sweet potato during these days just to give them a little bit more food ? he really likes it and we’ve been eating sweet potato for a while now , no reactions. Do you think that’ll make him hate carrots even more ? Or does he just go with less food on these days since he isn’t having many bites and I should stick to one food? Can’t seem to find any resources about the specific question. What do you ladies think?

Mix a tiny bit of potato with the carrots

I've read that it takes something like 10 times of trying a food to get a baby to like it! I would just keep trying to reintroduce the carrots every now and then and see if it changes! :)

Are you doing purée or “BLW”? Unless you’re introducing an allergen there’s no reason to only serve one food a day. We’ve introduced solids about a week ago and LO has tried 20 types of food. Did the same with our son.

Just keep introducing food over the first few years. Some days my toddler doesn’t enjoy carrots and some days he does. Same with baby. I just keep introducing and introducing. We choose what they eat, they choose how much they eat of what is served.

@Emily Del Degan I’m doing purée , I’ve been on the fence about blw , I’m still doing my research :)

@Alex if you want to look more into BLW I suggest @solidstarts on instagram and they have an app too!!!

Gagging in a young child does not mean they dislike the food. Children under 12M have a strong gagging reflex to protect them from chocking. As they start solid food and understand how to move it around their mouths and swallow they may gag more frequently. From reading the comments, it sounds like you are also serving the carrots in a purée form, so it’s also harder for baby to control and move around their mouths, which may trigger the gagging reflex. Just give it time and continue to practice. Unless baby has their mouth shut I wouldn’t say they dislike the food. However, you can offer different foods, no need to stick with just carrots.

It can take up to 15 tries before a baby develops a taste for a certain food. Keep trying. After they hit the toddler stage it can take 35-40 tries so now is the time to expose them to as much food as possible

Why does the baby have to eat carrots? Just feed something else
