Need advice

My son has asd and has the autism inclusion team in school to observe him as he's struggling etc. They asked on the phone if I had any questions. I have no idea what to say or what questions to ask please someone help this mummy out. (Son is in mainstream at min, hoping to get him into sen school)

Does he have an ehcp? If he doesn’t I would ask if they would be supportive of him getting one. Do they feel he’d be better in a smaller environment? What strategies do they recommend at school. If he’s struggling to sleep or getting into school I’d mention that or anything you’ve observed that may be relevant and helpful to her report. Good luck. I’m assuming you know of sendiass and ipsea? It will probably be a fight getting him into an sen school and the right one although it doesn’t hurt to start looking round them.

@Karen thank you yes he does have an ehcp we've looked around the sen schools on his ehcp they can't get him in till 2024 as they are full but if they have a space before that, to let us know. Yes I've spoke a few times with sendiass. I've not heard of ipsea.

We should be looking at his ehcp in April to start the review process

We were told with my eldest the sen schools were full. In hindsight we should have appealed however we had already had to appeal twice to get an ehcp. Year 1 he was barely in the classroom. We were told he’d be put on a waiting list however I’m sure they prioritise appeals case. They did find a place at an independent school. We moved areas and the school we wanted that was the only one suitable within an hour radius was full which we managed to get again by appealing although thankfully the LA conceded before that date. I think he was in a class of 5 so hardly full.

The school we want told us to keep fighting which is what we've done but I should of appealed. It's so hard, my son is in year 1 now. He's in the classroom alot but he runs around and can sit for a couple of mins. I'm still learning with all this I've not been through this before with my older 2. I'm glad you got through eventually for your eldest.
