Maternity

Hello everyone :) can I just ask what does everyone work as and what is the maternity pay like? I’m a teacher and thought that it would be better!

i’m an account manager. 90% for 6 weeks then SMP 😖 (around £680 a month) xx

Audit manager, 5 months full pay then SMP x

Senior Compliance Analyst, 3 months full pay then SMP x

I got 8 weeks full pay then 8weeks half pay and now I’m on SMP £710.84 a month as a customer service advisor in insurance

Business Consultant/Senior Ops Manager - basic statutory so was 90% of salary for first 6 weeks then £156.66 a week….still crying in to my cornflakes about it 😟

@Olivia oh does it differ? I thought it was the same for everyone x

@Jenn it’s just such a huge drop isn’t it, I’m the same!

@Cloe it’s so painful!! Especially when it’s such a big drop. I really think it should be a % of salary throughout maternity leave because everyone’s starting salary is so different x

Marketing manager, but regardless of role (junior or senior) my company offers enhanced maternity pay for further 10 weeks after the standard 6 weeks of 90% pay finishes. All in all 16 weeks of full pay (give or take). Also, a return to work bonus 3 and 6 months after returning to work.

@Jenn I agree! SMP is like 1500 less than my salary. Makes you feel a bit disheartened for all the work you do doesn’t it… it definitely isn’t realistic and the last thing you want with a newborn is to be worrying about finances x

I'm very lucky I'm a civil servant we get 6 months full pay then smp

I think it’s depends on the company’s policy you work for and the smp I think I could be to do with what you earn. I honestly don’t know how it’s worked out. But could do with more because it’s not enough to live on.

@Olivia no you’re right, it isn’t x

I got 6 weeks full pay then 6 weeks half pay and now I’m on SMP. Working as a service advisor in automotive

Civil service, 6 months full pay which is amazing, 13 weeks smp, then 13 weeks nothing 🙁

I think its more about the company than the industry. I get a really good package with the company I'm with atm. Package with my previous company was no where near as good - same industry and same job role.

I work nhs think it's 6 weeks full pay 13 weeks half pay 13 weeks smp but I split mine evenly over 9 months so only first 2 months were low as no smp but more or less normal basic pay now which is more manageable x

PA for the civil service. I get 6months full pay and then SMP for 13 weeks x

Also a teacher. It was so hard! I have returned from Maternity now and work part time x

Bar manager here, I’ve just had 6 weeks at 90% of my wages, now I’m about about to start SMP for the remainder and remembering what a struggle it was last time round 😩 x
