Why are straws encouraged for babies but pouches are not?

Honestly I’m convinced the “experts” just make new shit up every year so they send us all scrambling to follow the new advice and buy new products. I just do what works for us and if something has hard data to back it up, I try to follow that

Only negative thing I've heard about pouches is that they hold hidden mold. So I make my own or buy clear ones

@Lisa-Marie like pre-made/ store bought puree or applesauce pouches?

@Jess Not exactly sure what you're asking... I will buy premade/store bought if clear and I can see inside, but usually I just make them.

I love the idea of clear pouches. That's the type I am going to get

@Lisa-Marie I have read several articles on pouches been bad for oral development. At the same time straws are encouraged for strengthening the flexes of the jaw and tongue (or something like that) which -i believe- translates to oral development.

@Jill I agree with you. Everyday it's one thing or another

The reason I have avoided pouches is because anything your child sucks on that isn’t a nipple can change the shape of their mouth. Which over time it causes the mouth to be misshapen which can cause them all sorts of trouble with their teeth later on. Anyways, that’s what I learned from a baby care class at the hospital with my first. But I’m also kind of against using single use plastics but that’s a secondary reason.
