Flying with a baby

Wanting y’all’s opinion on flying with an infant. I have a tentative trip that looks like will be 8 hours in September. Baby will be 9 months at that time. Do you it’ll be too much?

My son is 2 now and we have been traveling almost every other month since he was 1 month. In my opinion it's a lot easier when they don't move than when they are mobile. We always booked flights around sleep time. Bring toys/books. And don't be afraid to walk in the aisles if you need to! You got this!!

Book it at a time where he will sleep most of the time List of snacks and quiet activities

We started flying with our son when he was about 5 months old, and since then (he’s 15 months) he’s been around the country as well as overseas to Europe. If you can schedule it when he’s normally sleeping, that’s great, but it didn’t always (or even usually) work out that way for us. Just be sure to bring lots of different things for Baby to do, plus different snacks. Bring a blanket and at the airport before the flight (and on layovers if you have any), spread it out and allow your little to crawl/wiggle around to get some energy out. And like someone said before me, definitely walk up and down the aisles if Baby gets restless. Also, people are generally so wonderful and quick to offer help, whether it’s carrying your bags or playing peekaboo with your little from the seat behind. Lastly, bring two changes of clothes for your little and one for you as well. We had one extra outfit on a 9-hour flight and he leaked in the one before spitting up in the second… and on my husband.

I'm a travel agent and travel with my kiddos a ton. Book it! May shoot for a time that hits when baby sleeps so you get more of a break for at least some of the time. My girls both loved the freeze dried yogurt drops for landing and take off. They also liked bottles/pacifiers to for ear pressure popping. Pack spare outfits for you and baby in Ziploc bags(whole outfit in a bag) in case of blowout, you can just grab the bag and have everything you need even a bag to put the other clothes in. Just to add.... My only bad experience flying with my oldest when she was little was when my husband decided to give her benadryl to make her sleep and didn't tell me. It worked the opposite and she was wired the whole flight 5+ hrs and be didn't tell me until we landed and he said he probably shouldn't have done that 🤦 Just don't do it!

My daughter has been flying since 1 month old. You can take car seat and stroller free of charge. You can check the car seat and check stroller at the gate. (Would be nice if you had the stroller the car seat attaches to, that way you would only have to check the base)When my daughter was that small I used the baby carrier and just had her attached to me (people already had appropriate car seat for me to use at my destination) Prepare bottles with powder already and bring water in the diaper bag. Yes! You are allowed to bring water for the bottles. Give baby a bottle/pacifier/snack when taking off… it helps with the ears popping. I traveled with her as a lap child until she was too old (full price tickets for a two year old sucks). My daughter was absolutely fine traveling with me holding her in my lap
