@Tanya I spoke to my gp a week ago and tried everything they’ve given/suggested and can’t get an appointment no w until Thursday ! And I currently don’t actually have a HV it’s been stand ins for last few visits so haven’t got a HV to contact
Have you tried carobel? If not I’d deffo recommend that as it’s worked wonders for my LG’s reflux x
That is way too young and I don't recommend baby rice when you start weaning as it has no nutritional value, but each to their own 😊 Weaning early (4 months) helps with reflux I believe, so try and hold out until then before you give solids 😊 x
Who suggested this? I would look into baby rice as it has barely any nutritional value and isn't actually considered 'good' for babies. I know you might be at your wits end if you're considering this, but I would really research baby rice and weaning early. Have you looked at the formula for hungry babies? Which apparently is thicker?
They should be offering you a same day appointment if you ring in the morning since he’s an infant x
@Daphne it was suggested to me by a family member which is why I’m so unsure but she did it with 3 of her 5 children which is why I’m kind of debating it. I have done quite abit of research into baby rice and seems to only be any good put into the formula (which is what I’m considering doing. It says 1tsp per oz but I’m thinking more 3tsp in his usual 7oz bottle so it isn’t to much for his little belly) The gp told us to avoid hungry baby milk at all cost because it’s really bad for babies and causes a lot of problems. I’m not wanted to properly wean I just want to thicken his milk until this reflux passes then stop and just give him his normal milk. It’s been going on so long now it’s horrible to see what it’s doing to him and with him not being able to lie flat on his back without him clearly being in pain is horrible. He’s been on calpol for the past 48 hours (as gp suggested we used as a last resort to get him to settle) but I hate using it now it’s been 48 hours
@Tanya there’s only 2 doctors at the gp office and only one is able to deal with infants. It’s very stupid how it all works because it’s the only one around her and we can’t go to any other gp due to our address we are way out of the area they cover
I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. Have you been prescribed medication? I see why you would consider this. However, just because someone did it with 3 of their children doesn't make it good or safe. For example, my gran raised 3 children without seat belts in the car. They're all safe and nobody got hurt, but that doesn't make it safe practice (I know the example is unrelated but I'm sure you get what I mean). I would talk with a GP or dietician about how to tackle the reflux. X
That’s very baffling and I imagine very frustrating. As Daphne has put, have they prescribed anything?
@Daphne no I total understand where you’re coming from it’s why I’m really unsure but I’m at the point now I just don’t know what to do and I’d consider anything to stop his pain. @Tanya we was originally prescribed infant gaviscon which did nothing then something called lanso something which also isn’t helping 😓
I completely understand that and would do the same! Maybe ask for omeprazole as that seems to help a lot of babies. I had the adult one in pregnancy and worked wonders. If you can't get an appointment with the Dr. Maybe call 111 as they have out of hours Dr. That might be able to help x
We also found infant gaviscon to be rubbish. We’re on omeprazole now and it does seem to help but it is hit and miss. As Daphne has said, 111 should be able to help you and maybe get you a prescription x
Please if you haven’t already try carobel! It thickens the milk and doesn’t take away any nutrients. If it’s thickening the milk you’re after it does exactly that and my little girl suffers badly with reflux and she’s much better now. You can get prescribed it or buy it over the counter at any chemist x
Yes my pediatrician told me to put the rice in her bottle with her formula I do about 2 tablespoons in each 5-6oz bottle. But she is also on famotidine 0.4ml every 12 hours for the reflux as well.

But my daughter is 6 months old. Speak with her ped.
I second using carobel. My little boy was throwing up a lot of his milk and the gp was useless and refused giving us anything, they told us to give him an oz of cooled boiled water before every single feed. He was 8 weeks old then and something was telling me that wasn’t right and that he shouldn’t be having that much water at his age. I bought carobel instead and started adding that to his bottles and he’s doing so much better x
Has this been suggested by your HV or Gp? If not, don’t try. To be honest I wouldn’t try regardless at this age. Have you been to the GP about it? We’ve been prescribed medication.
