Maternity Leave with Second

For those that had or are having babies back to back what does mean for your maternity EI? Do you just not receive it because you didn’t work before going off again?

You MUST have 600hours of work completed to do another maternity EI claim.🤗 (Husband works for ei) once your first is up that's it.

Dang so if you have back to back babies you lose out on that 😬 do you know if you can apply for unemployment instead? Or if there is another way to still get paid?

No you will have no insurable hours unfortunately

I know people who had to go back to work early, (before their first was 1) to get their hours in so they can take a full year for the next. They don't allow you to do that because people would take advantage of the system and/or not go back to work.

Ahh yes makes sense

@Alyssa did you have back to back kids? If so did you notice your child bonus every month increase because your income was lower?

I did have back to back children actually, I became a stay at home mom so I did not have another maternity leave. I worked a little bit while pregnant for the second but didn't get enough hours. And yes you're child tax will increase but only the next tax period. So for example say you get 300$ for your first child currently, and say you have your next in November. Well you'll get roughly 300$ each (600$ total) until July 2024 when child tax is re assessed.

Oh yea that makes sense. Thank you :)
