There isn’t enough research yet. We know THC easily transfers to our milk. We know it’s not good, we just don’t know how bad the consequences can be. So far the main conclusion that was consistent when comparing smoking breastfeeding moms to non, was slower motor development…but the jury is still out on long term affects neurologically - those are all things you wouldn’t see now in your child, it will be connected to their young adult/adult timeframe. There will be plenty of people in every other comment stating their babies and toddlers are fine - but remember that that’s irrelevant, science has explained these are affects that are expected late in life - so it’s still a gamble even if your kid appears fine. It is recommended that if you are smoking, do it nowhere near the baby, preferably wear a coat that you leave outside after you smoke and wait 3-4 hours until breastfeeding, smoke in general is bad….or skip it completely to be safe until you’re done breastfeeding.

I smoked while breastfeeding, got the ok from my IBCLC and did my own research and felt comfortable doing it. Started from 6m with my first and immediately with my second. I was never a heavy sniffer, both got milestones early or on target, both super bright.

It slowed down my milk supply. Everyone body is different though

The same as Brandi, herb and tobacco slowed my milk production. I had a really hard time producing, but I also had awful PPD/PPA so for me the good outweighed the bad. My son is 16 months old and doing great. He has a feeding delay, but I believe that to be my fault as we went straight to purées instead of BLW

I started smoking right after I got home from the hospital. And I don’t even wait in between smoking and feeding. So little amount transfers into breast milk. Just like the new rule for the alcohol is that if you can hold your baby you can feed your baby. That’s what my pediatrician said (me and my pediatrician use to be good friends)

Everyone's opinion is going to be different but personally I smoked with 3 pregnancies and breastfeed them each for some amount of time. For my first 2 kids I breastfed until about 4 months then stopped. I'm currently 8 months into exclusively bf my 3rd baby and it's going great. All of my children are bright and have no issues with their health. My oldest is 5 and they told me bc I smoked while pregnant and such that around now he'd show signs of mental delay and autism. Very not true. My son is 90th percentile in school and loves to learn. None of my children ever acted high or tested positive for weed. It doesn't pass through you milk only thr natural cannabanoids which are already in our breastmilk to start.

I do and my daughter is perfectly healthy, she’s ahead on her milestones and is a very happy 14 month old. I even smoked throughout my pregnancy which helped with aches and pains. Again is did not affect my daughter whatsoever!

I feel guilty about it but I have PPA / PPD and if I don’t puff on my pen .. some days I can’t get out of bed. I’m also on 60 mg of fluoxetine and have been for a while. I don’t see much of a difference between the two in terms of what can be passed except one is a pharmaceutical and the other is a natural medicine… they both have side effects for me.. I’ve seen nothing in my baby. This is my 3rd and we are 1 month PP. I’m such a light weight one puff from my vape thc pen and it’s enough for usually the day.

I've been breastfeeding my daughter for a year now and have been breastfeeding the whole time. My daughter has met every single milestone early so far. It hasn't had any effect on her development in the slightest. She's a happy healthy girl.
