Stretch and sweep!

Today is my due date šŸ„° 40 weeks today and I'm booked in for a sweep! I'm so nervous about it and don't know what to expect! Any advice or experiences ? Does it hurt ?

Try and relax as best as you can. I was nervous as this was my first time being examined (havenā€™t had smears as I was due one when I found out I was pregnant) so I didnā€™t know what to expect at all with sweeps. It can feel quite uncomfortable but the more tense you are the more uncomfortable itā€™ll be so just try and breathe and relax as much as you can. Itā€™s not bad and it doesnā€™t hurt, itā€™s just a weird feeling as youā€™ve got a midwife with her hand up you šŸ˜‚ I had mine done at 39 weeks and my body just wasnā€™t ready yet (I was getting induced 3 days later) so hopefully with you being 40 weeks your body is moving things along nicely and itā€™ll make things progress once sheā€™s finished! Good luck xxx

Awh thank you so much! I'm the same I was due a smear but obviously couldn't have one due to being pregnant so I also have no idea what to expect šŸ˜† The baby is very low and been engaged for theatre week! So fingers crossed šŸ¤žšŸ» It helps! This has re assured me thanks again ā¤ļø

I had one Monday, personally it did hurt me and I found it far more aggressive than I thought it was going to be! BUT itā€™s over in seconds. Just try and relax as much as possible and practice deep breathing x

Iā€™ve had 3 now. First two were uncomfortable 3rd she was much more aggressive, but it was over as quick as it happened. If they do it a bit slower and tell you what they are doing try and do lots of deep breathing. Its one step closer to meeting your baby šŸ„°

I personally just found it a bit uncomfortable rather than painful. But as said by somebody else it really is over so quickly. Good luck x

I had mine on Tuesday and I found it uncomfortable and a little painful as my cervix was closed but the midwife was as gentle and reassuring as she could be and gave me gas and air which helped massively and went along with what I could manage. We managed to get it done and was over in about 10 mins xx

Iā€™m 40 + 3 today and Iā€™m going in for my first sweep in half hour so will let you know how I get on! Iā€™m really nervous too but Iā€™m sure we will be fine ā¤ļø All the best xxx

I just had mine done, my cervix has only just started to move forward and open so she couldnā€™t do the full sweep but did like a cervical massage, so I have another booked in Monday. She said itā€™s all positive signs though as they would expect the cervix to be closed still if Iā€™ve had no twinges (which I havenā€™t) so taking it as a positive! It also was completely fine I didnā€™t find it uncomfortable or anything just strange. Good luck xx

Hello love :) I had one just now at 39+3 and it wasnā€™t bad at all. I had a very lovely midwife though, so I donā€™t know if itā€™s related but she kept telling me what was going to happen and to ask her to stop if it got to uncomfortable. I think it depends on the person and how you tolerate pain, but for me it was more uncomfortable than painful. When she first started, it was a bit uncomfortable but as she kept stimulating my cervix it got better. I just closed my eyes, relaxed and keep breathing in and out. Keeping a conversation while itā€™s being done is not a bad idea as well, if you want. At least your focus wonā€™t be 100% on what is happening down there :) it will be fine donā€™t worry!
