Travelling abroad with CMPA dilemma

Hi ladies. We travel abroad 2 weeks after my daughter's 1st birthday and I'm in a dilemma about her milk. She's currently on SMA Alfamino and I can't decide whether we keep her on the prescription formula for the holiday or transition her to a milk alternative - the dietician has recommended an alpro growing up milk (which you can get in small cartons which would be handy for travel). The dietician has written a letter for us to take on holiday & the travel company have increased our hand luggage by 10kg so we can take her milk for the week on board. It would be easier to be on the alpro milk as they are small cartons and we wouldn't need to be making up bottles but we would have to take a lot of cartons of the alpro to last the duration (plus contingency ones) whereas we'd only need a few tubs of the formula. Anyone got any advice based on their experience?

This is my biggest worry about going on holiday xx

We are away at the moment and use the growing up milk. I brought 2 of the big bottles then a couple of packets of cartons to take out with us during the day. Just a heads up the airport had to split all the carton packets open to test every single carton separately which took a little while and wasn’t as easy to pack back up. If you’re staying somewhere with a fridge I’d definitely recommend bringing some of the big bottles too. My back survived - just but worth it and LO is refusing to drink much water so having to offer quite a bit of milk. Not sure where you’re travelling but if you’re going somewhere where bottled water is recommended over tap water you will need to look for ones that have low sodium levels - sorry if you already know this!

@Claire thank you - that's so helpful. So we would be ok taking lots of small cartons as hand luggage with a letter from the dietician? Xx

@Jen yeah you will be fine. We didn’t have a letter, just used as part of normal luggage allowance but milk for children under 2 is unlimited, at least with Ryan Air it was but I’m sure it would be for all airlines. Just give yourself plenty of time at security as it will take a while to scan each individual carton.

@Claire thank you so much! X

@Jen who you flying with?

@Claire jet2 xx

@Claire so yoh have the growing up soya or growing up oat in the small cartons? I can only find the small cartons in soya. Xx

@Jen yeah we use the soya cartons. The small cartons don’t exist in oat milk.

@Claire thank you xx

@Claire how have you found eating abroad with your little one and their allergy? Xx

@Jen I took all food with us, except fruit. She suffers from very serious anaphylaxis reactions to milk so I haven’t braved eating out anywhere at all yet and still anxious about buying food in supermarkets abroad. So I’m probably not much help there, sorry!

@Claire I think I'm going to do the same, I'm just too nervous. I'd rather be safe than sorry. My friend went away and her little one has CMPA, she said things had dairy free on them but then had feta in 🤦‍♀️ and it's put me off xx
