metallic taste…

call me crazy but i’ve been having a wild metallicy, bitter taste in my mouth the past couple days 🥲 no matter how much i brush my teeth or eat something spicy or sour, it’s just unbearable. has anyone else experienced this? my OB said it’s not uncommon and it could last a while unfortunately

Are you pregnant or did you have a baby already?

When I was pregnant, anytime I had something sweet, it tasted metalic. It was the most annoying thing ever! No oreos or cake for me!

If you’re pregnant this is super normal- had it for a long time in my pregnancy. Often for people it’s an iron deficiency (not always or the telling answer) but upping my iron did help a good bit

@Allegra currently pregnant, 10w1d

@Rai i could have nothing in my mouth and taste it, i feel like im losing it lol

@Natalie oh no! how long did it last for you? i was on the verge of being anemic before i got pregnant, so that could be. what iron supplements did you take?

I think in the beginning it was like that for me too. But then by the second trimester, it only happened whenever I had something sweet, until I gave birth.

I think it stopped shortly before halfway. I just got the Costco brand, I was not on the verge of anemic but also had bad Charley horses that lasted upwards of 5-10 minutes which is how the iron supplements came up but helped with both a bit!

@Rai @Natalie thank you guys for the help! i really appreciate it, i thought i was losing it lol

I heard that early on in pregnancy this can be a weird symptom due to hormones 😅 i read eating pickles, saltine crackers, or chewing sugar free mint gum can help mask the taste! Sorry there isn't much you can do :( just another pregnancy symptom!

I had that metallic taste in my mouth half of my pregnancy haha

I’ve had this since 6 weeks & im 12 weeks on Monday!! Some days were worse than others and sugar made it so bad!! I feel you rn bc it’s such a horrible symptom 🥹 mints sometimes takes it away for me but on out a short period of time :( someone also recommended therabreath mouthwash! Hope it gets better for you 🩵
