Weight loss in pregnancy

Currently 13 weeks pregnant, and have been fat shamed by my midwife already, referred to a dietitian without my consent and made to feel like I'm a bad person. Anyway, I struggle with my mental health and have had 4 miscarriages In the last 2 years and to be honest I wasn't looking after myself and gained quite a lot of weight due to the depression and not being able to look after myself right. I'm self conscious, I hate looking at myself, and this midwife has set me in defence mode. It's kicked up my old eating disorder to be honest. 9 months ago, I decided it was time to start looking after myself and started walking 30,000 steps at least 5 times a week due to my job (dog walker). I started looking after my diet and the weight wasn't shifting at all. I did try! But anyway, how can I loose weight safely during pregnancy? My doctor who helped us conceive and stay pregnant advised me not to work or put to much pressure on my body because of my history. My sickness has just started to ease so no food was staying down anyway for the first 12 weeks. Do I just starve myself? How do I please a midwife when I have been trying for so long.

Switch midwife’s. Get rid of them that is toxic behavior you shouldn’t need to worry about right now. When pregnant my OB said drink protein drinks that are low sugar low carb 2 meals a day and take your prenatals and have 1 freebie meal of what you want. Keep your steps up it’s great to keep yourself moving through pregnancy unless otherwise advised. You got this!

I would switch midwives. I’m also a bigger girl and 19 weeks and a few days. I was advised not to try to lose weight during pregnancy, but to try not to gain more than 10 pounds.

Hi 👋 I was around 16 stones when I got pregnant and my midwife never say to loose weight opposite to don't diet during pregnancy! I was diagnosed gestational diabetes later but it runs in family and even with GD diet I didn't loose weight. Change midwife asap she can do harm to you and child with her unprofessional advice. Previous 2 miscarriages now my rainbow boy is 18 months 💙 it will be ok . I may add that I didn't loose weight after pregnancy at all even with all sorts of diet and after many tests and doctors I was diagnosed with insulin resistance. So worth to check this out.

Definitely don't try and lose weight whilst pregnant unless under the guidance of medical professionals (like the dietician?). Given your history, I wouldn't risk losing weight as this could harm your baby. Unfortunately I'd just suck it up until baby is born and then try to lose weight then. Sorry she's made you feel this way though, definitely ask to swap midwives x

I should also note my diet was to maintain weight, not lose weight so to speak. I had already lost over 100 pounds and didn’t want to gain that’s why I asked for that advise. It wasn’t pushed on me.
