Clary sage oil

What’s everyone’s experiences with clary sage oil? Has anyone used it and been successful? I’m 38+3 now and heard you can pop a few drops in the bath or on your tummy with coconut oil. Has anyone done this? My midwife said it’s fine to use but can also be dangerous, does anyone know why?

I used it with my first born, I just smelt it continuously it helps release oxytocin. Can't understand why your midwife said it's "dangerous" it's just essential oils and then use it in birth centres to keep oxytocin flowing. I must add, with my firstborn, it didn't make a difference, I don't think he was ready to come despite his false alarms. I don't think there is any harm in it though.

They say the same about castor oil. It's basically because no official research has been done on anything natural. And because it affects everyone differently. So basically if it has a strong effect on you, then labour could happen too quick...which can put you and baby at risk of trauma and potential bleeding/tearing for you

@Mel ahh I see! Maybe ill wait til I get to 40 weeks

I think it can be harmful if it's used around other pregnant women who aren't full term

From what I learnt in my first pregnancy after a bit of research (so this may be wrong but my midwives also agreed and said the same things at the time in 2021) It's only harmful when used earlier in pregnancy as it can cause excessive Braxton Hicks which can cause distress to baby and has been known to cause bleeding in some women, but used correctly after you are full term it can be a useful tool to help bring on labour. I used the sex bomb bath bomb from lush as it has it in and used the oil in my bath and with a carrier lotion massaged into my lower back and belly after I hit 38wks. I did go into spontaneous labour at 40+5 but needed the hormone drip as I wasn't progressing past 6cm after 2 days of contractions.
