Big baby?

Anyone else have a big baby? I’m 35+2 and he’s weighing 7.7lbs 98 percentile Been told I shouldn’t go full term and to be induced early. Worried.. Anyone else have similar baby size?

Mine is about the same and I’m due in October!😂 my first baby was 10lb2oz on the 99th percentile at birth though and I was induced at 38 weeks to help him come safely! I’m so glad I didn’t wait any longer or it would have 100% led to an emergency section!x

I Will say my baby was measuring big and came out 7lb11oz at 40+4. He measured 7lbs at 36 weeks. They thought he would be 8.5-9.5 lbs at39 weeks. He did come out really long

Induction because a baby is measuring big goes against best practice. Many women say birthing ‘big’ babies are easier than small babies. I wouldn’t know as I had two babies over 9lbs, but both came out super easy. Remember growth scans are inaccurate, so don’t rely on that

Have they always been 99th centile or have they suddenly grown bigger than expected? In case it helps, I've had two 97th centile babies vaginally. The first was 8lb 6oz and the second was 9lb 9oz.

So glad I stumbled across this! I'm being sent for a growth scan on Friday due to bump measuring bigger than expected, I feel suspicious as he's moved positions and a new midwife measured this time but we will see 🤞🏻

@Fiona big babies are not always easy, my baby was born at 38 weeks and was 10lb2oz with induction, he was shoulder dystocia, got an infection, ended up staying in for a week, shoulder dystocia risk increases massively for big babies x

Omg I'm so glad I I came across this post! I'm 35 weeks today and had a growth scan today and my daughter is 7lb15 already 🙈 I am booked in for a section in 2 weeks but that was originally because of my placenta being low and for other reasons. She has always been a big baby (my husband was too and my mum and most of her siblings were big) and ultrasounds aren't always right but you can't help but worry especially when I'm 4ft 11 🙈💕🤣

I was told at 35 weeks that mine was just over 7 pounds, I'm now going the 5 day finger pricking test to see if I have gestational diabetes 🫣 then got another growth scan next Thursday, think they will then speak to me about being induced if he still seems big 💜 my friend was induced with sweeps and said it was just a bit uncomfortable, do you feel like he feels big? X

I have my next growth scan tomorrow at 34+3. I’ve been having growth scans since 22 weeks due to big measurements and have had gestational diabetes for 3 weeks now. I’ve been told I won’t go to term and should look at c section or sweep from 37+5. I am torn on what to do but if he is as big as they think I’d rather have him at a healthy stage rather than push to 40 weeks and end up with emergency c section or a traumatic birth. Going to make a more clear decision after my scan in the morning

My baby is measuring on 92nd centile. I was advised to be induced between 38-39 weeks but am so far declining because I did not have a positive experience of induction with my daughter. Also I was informed that the risk of shoulder dystocia goes up with big babies but also with induction so I wasn’t sure it made sense. Want to see if baby boy comes on his own first but I would consider low level induction like a sweep.

@Beth I’m sorry that happened to you and your baby. I didn’t say all ‘big’ babies are easier to birth, I said many are easier because there’s more weight for gravity to pull down through the pelvis. My midwife actually showed me a paper when I had a suspected big baby saying that shoulder dystocia is actually more common in ‘small’ babies, as with everything in medicine, theres no black and white, but suspicion of a big baby alone isn’t a reason to induce and goes against best practice and against the NICE guidelines. (And induction can increase the risk of shoulder dystocia)

My baby was measuring 6lb9oz at 33+5. I have another growth scan booked for 35+5 where they said if he is still measuring big then they will consider the timing of delivery, which will then affect the method of delivery. I am hoping I can be induced before he gets too big as I really want to give birth naturally. When have they recommended you be induced?xx

I measuring large and I got booked in for a C-Section but it’s after my due date so I’m confused to be honest. And they aren’t doing a growth scan at all
