First cold

My little one has just started with a cold and gone off his bottles only drinking now and again. I noticed a brick like colour in his nappy when I changed it. Is this normal & any advice on the best way to tackle the cold, we’ve been giving him Calpol to help. Thank you from a first time mum 💗

My little girl has her first cold at the minute too. She’s dropped a bottle today so only having 5 instead of 6 as she’s been sleeping most of the day. I’m not sure about the nappy situation as she’s also had weird nappies for nearly a week haha but maybe it is to do with the cold? We’ve been saline spray and snot sucking and we bought the calpol plug in and used it last night and I feel like it’s helped a bit! I’m a first time mam too it’s hard to know what’s normal/ what to do isn’t it ☹️ x

@Toni thanks hun, I’ll look into those and see if that helps us too! I’m thinking it is to do with him not feeding as often and the cold alongside as I haven’t seen it before 😅. Absolutely, I’m such a worrier and end up googling stuff that doesn’t help and makes it worse too haha x

@Charlotte yeah same here! She’s been snotty all day but not too bad and now we’ve came to bed it’s horrendous 🙃 she still wants her dummy though so fully still breathing out of her nose but it’s so loud and snotty 😂

My little dude has just got over his cold!! Had it for over a week, snot sucking and saline spray, with the plug in were a life saver! He was drink little and often, my chub normally has 8oz but was drinking 4 then an hour later finishing the rest. Not too sure about the poop situ but, mine was having a bit of the runs and have 2x poos a day when ill and normally only has one so might be to do with the cold!

@Toni it’s always worse at night isn’t it when you need sleep 🙈🤣. That’s exactly what my little boy is like & constantly sneezing and coughing!

@Riley thank you so much!! Going to get them asap. Mines the exact same with his bottle or I’ll have to make a completely new one two hours later for him to take 2/3oz he didn’t want earlier 😂

@Shaks thank you, I never knew you could do that!

Ours is on her 3rd cold (husband works in a school so brings everything home). Apart from Calpol/Ibuprofen I recommend Snufflebalm on the chest. Also one night this week my daughter was so bunged up that I put a bit of vapour rub and hot water in a bowl near her (outside the cot and away from where she can reach haha). This really cleared her nose. She tends not to drink as much milk in the days when she's ill but still drinks full bottles through the night. We also use a bulb snot sucker x
