How to administer omeprazole

Our 6 week old has been prescribed omeprazole (mezzopram). How are we supposed to administer it - we think the doctor told us to dissolve the tablet in a bottle of expressed milk but it says on the leaflet not to dissolve in milk…? We also can’t see how much milk/water to dissolve into… Our baby is EBF but we’ve started giving the odd bottle of formula when we need to Also I can see on here sometimes people saying you have to give X hours before and X hours after a feed… we weren’t told anything like this?

When you next collect your prescription... Ask the pharmacist to make it into a liquid for you ... That's what I did ... But for now dissolve a bit into breast milk (just enough so you know he/she will take it all, just like a tablespoon amount) and put it into teat of bottle (no bottle) and let him/her suck on it while you hold it up right... My little one no longer takes it so I can't even show how

@Nicole thank you!! We were planning to give it first thing in the morning - would I just breastfeed him after giving it to him or wait a certain length of time?

We always tried to give it 30minutes before a feed ... Just to try and avoid him spitting it up

We’ve tried to dissolve the pill in the bottle for the last 2 mornings but it just seems like loads of it is still coating the bottle/in the teat. We’ve tried asking the doctor for the liquid but they’ve pushed back and told us to use the tablets… is it still going to be effective if there is still some in the bottle?

After they've took the medicine and if there is any residue left in the teat ... Just add a little more milk and give them that too ... I don't imagine there would be a whole lot left so I wouldn't worry if there is residue left over as they are getting the majority of it ... Has your doctor given you the infant gaviscon? I didn't think it was great on its own but it was brilliant when we used it along with the omeprazol

Ah yes we’ve added extra milk to help get the rest of it but still a bit in there! We were on infant gaviscon before but they told us to stop using it once we started this… would you use in the same bottle with the omezrapole or did you give as a paste? We normally BF but give this little expressed bottle in morning with omezrapole and then an 3/4oz bottle of expressed milk before bed in the evening with carobel…

I don't think they recommend using the gaviscon while baby is on carobel ... As my little one was taken off carobel as soon as he was put on the gaviscon ... But we put the sachet into a 4oz expressed bottle and then I finished the feed on the breast
