In love with the name, worried about mispronounciation

So I live in the US. My husband and I love the name 'Soleil' and the meaning of Sun. However since it is French I'm slightly worried people would call her 'soleel'. I did some digging and came to find that 'Soley' pronounced the same at 'soleil' and is Icelandic for "buttercup" which I also love that (we are nature people, and my son's name is Jade Salix) our last name is also super German, and my husband is german/norwegian among other things, so I don't feel 'Soley' is too out there. However, I'm worried that could be pronounced 'sol-ee'. Help! I don't care for similar names such as 'solene, marisol.. etc. Just want opinions on these!

Spell it how you like and you’ll just have to correct initially. I’m Briana (Bree-ah-nuh) but get called Bree-Anne-Uh about 50% of the time. I just correct and gently remind

I grew up with a Soleil and always loved the name. I’m sure some people will always pronounce it wrong, but don’t let that change your opinion! Weirdly when I was little, people would always called me “Kiera” like??? So even with straightforward names there will always be people who just don’t get it

I read and assumed so-leel. How is it pronounced?

@Danielle it's pronounced "so-lay"!

I would spell it how you want to spell it. People may mispronounce it the first time they read, but can then be told the correct pronunciation. I have even had my name mispronounced as Kell-Eye and had someone straight ask me how to pronounce it because he's never seen it before. Also, I love the name Soleil. I think it's a beautiful name.

I would pronounce Soley as soul-e. Soleil I would know how to pronounce.

i prefer the spelling of Soleil - but i know how to pronounce it correctly. i would pronounce Solay the same as Soleil, but personally, I would go with Soleil and just correct people who pronounce it wrong. to me, Soley looks like it should be pronounced So-Lee - like "sole" with a Y at the end. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I like Soleil. My 1st thought is “So-lay-uhl” but spell it how you want and just correct people!

Some people mispronounce even very simple names, especially of you are in North America and using a non English name. Spell it how you like, I prefer the original Soleil, be prepared to correct people and prepare your child to correct people when she is old enough.

I’d stick with Soleil as it’s becoming more well known, but yes there will always be people who mispronounce it. Solay is the next best option

You are the only person on here that found that’s a close to our baby name. Sorley. Means summer wanderer.
