@katie we have tried gaviscon on two occasions but it constipated her and was even more hard work, just can't win and everything's trail and error. She's 3 months old this week. I feel like gas wasn't an issue before and now it is and I can't tell if the nutramigen has worked for the really "uncomfortable" baby I had because she's twice as uncomfortable now . How old is your little one? They say things get better as the weeks go on and I'm hoping there's some truth in that because it's been a tough 13 weeks for us 🙃xx
I completely agree. At the time I thought the new milk was a godsend but she isn't much better tbh. My daughter is 11 weeks old. She screams most nights. Tears down her face. It's awful. She had really bad acne before the milk, that has settled but she goes sick after every feed. Sometimes projectile. I've started gaviscon again, I do recommend from personal experience to give some boiled water cooled throughout the day to help with the constipation. The gaviscon says it works within 30 minutes so I give 1 sachet at the 3pm,6pm and then the 9pm feed give 2 sachets. It's my third time retrying it tonight so I'll see how it goes. It's so hard isn't it. I find I get such anxiety towards night time wondering what type of night ill have. Sorry its been so tough. I feel the same. Its been a rollercoaster.r xx
@katie I'm with you on the anxiety, 4pm onwards in my case anything after 4 pm can be really difficult as she gets really unsettled in the evening. Yeah I swear by cooled boiled water too, even tho not recommended it's worked for us before when she was constipated especially in the first few weeks with changes to formula and then the gaviscon. Doctor prescribed us lactolouse too, but I just worry that she will struggle with her bowel movements for the foreseeable if I keep with the gaviscon and she's always constipated with it, I gave it all of last week and she went 4 days without a poo with having lactolose . Then she poo'd was like great but back to constipated then and it's difficult isn't it so hard to know what todo for the best. if you ever need a chat feel free to message me. Hope things improve for you too... our day will come and I'm sure it'll all be a much more enjoyable experience because the trenches are tough xx
We are in a very similar boat! My LO had a tongue tie which caused him a lot of issues including reflux and very bad gas. We had it cut but unfortunately is not a quick fix and his tongue has to retrain itself which can take months. His gas did get better and felt like we were getting somewhere but we used Carobel to help with his reflux and took what felt a giant leap back. Very gassy, thick playdough like poo that he really struggles to pass. No two nights are the same as it all depends on his gas levels/whether he’s pooed or not even though we do the same things to help ease his gas every day. Last night he was up practically every hour in discomfort. Me and my partner have really debated whether it’s worth it. Is the reflux worse than the effects of the milk thickener or gaviscon?! I’m a bit at a loss of what to do. Today we are going to try and reduce the Carobel to the absolute bare minimum and see how that goes. Seeing the HV on Monday so hopefully they’ll be able to help 🤞
@Emily how have things been have you seen any improvements?
@Kelly I ended up reading that Carobel has an ingredient called maltodextrin in that can cause gassiness and even reducing it wasn’t helping. We decided to switch over to anti reflux milk (hipp organic) as it has the same thickener (bean gum) without the maltodextrin. It immediately stopped his gassiness and he’s been sleeping so so much better! Unfortunately it made his poos much harder and uncomfortable for him so we have after some advice from a doctor reduced the amount. We do 4 scoops normal hipp organic and 2 scoops anti reflux. This is the level we have found that stops him being constipated but still helps his reflux.
It's so hard isn't it. We are expediting the same symptoms. Still not much improvement from the nutramigen. We've started her. On gaviscon as we think she has reflux. That has helped the last few nights but I am giving boiled cooled water as she is constipated on the gaviscon. Hope and wishes it gets easier for you. How old is she? Xx
