@Kelly thank u I was thinking the same thing the balloon type shoes cause they don’t like actual shoes on thier feet but I’ll look into buying them in person they need to try them on first to insure they fit perfectly thank u Chicago winters suck
They have dog suspender looking things that cover their feet and go up their legs and are attached to eachother. Something like that would keep them from taking them off. Then just put them some where that they can't reach them when not in use. I live in Northern Wisconsin so I feel your pain. I put my dog boots on right before we go outside. She hates it but once we start walking in the snow she doesn't seem to mind. I actually found hers at aldi.
I have booties from Chewy and I will put them on my dog randomly throughout the year and let her walk around the house while giving her treats when she does. She’s gotten used to them now and will wear them. I got the ones that Velcro around the ankle and wrists, but just be careful not to do it too tight to avoid cutting of blood circulation
I used to live in Chicago and my boxer hated the winters. The only things I could get her to wear to protect her feet were the shoes that kind of look like a balloon and allows for their paws/pads to expand/contract a little more naturally. Those are great to protect against the salt and I believe they even make some for when the sidewalk heat is too much but I don’t know how much they’d offer in the way of warmth against freezing temperatures. Could be worth a try though. I know my boxer hated anything that prevented her from feeling her pads do their normal thing.
