To be the leine shows it to be pronounced line.
I see both spellings being pronounced either way. Would just need to correct
First one, with instructions. I'd pronounce the second one as Madalen.
I pronounce both Mad-eh-lin personally but think Madeline makes more sense if pronouncing as -line rather than lin. The French version with the e encourages the shorter vowel in my opinion.
If you want ‘line’ definitely go Madeline!
@Madeleine thank you 🙏 so happy someone with the spelling has commented
This name is on my shortlist for girls too but as Madeleine (short vowel sound) so nice to see someone else considering it
My middle name is Madeline & we say ‘Lin’ at the end so I’d go with the other! Gorgeous name either way
Madeline is pronounced with a "line" ending. Madeleine is often mispronoujced as Mad-Uh-LINE - but the correct French pronunciation is more Mad-Uh-Lehn. in the UK, people usually pronounce it more Mad-Uh-LIN though!
I pronounce mine Mad-eh-lane, like a walk down the ‘lane’. Definitely not ‘lin’ or ‘line’ although you get all sorts!
The bottom one I would pronounce as lane but I’m in the uk and I would probably still pronounce the top one as lin 😂
Considering the name as well. First one I would pronounce LIN Second one I would pronounce LINE (I'm German) I like the first MadeLINe better, but I'm afraid lots of people will butcher the name and my girl will always have to correct people. What Nicknames are common for the name?
@TK Maddy/Maddie/Mads/Mad Maddy 🫣
My little girl is Madeleine to make it ‘Lin’ and I thought Madeline made it ‘line’ as that’s literally how it’s spelt!
Interesting hey! I would have said 1st could be either depending on accents & the 2nd -leen but I guess because it’s an old name people expect it to be a certain way which is -lin. Funny because Adeline is pronounced -line. Something to consider?
