How to go about it.

How did you all go about getting clomid? (Uk) I have very irregular cycles and have had every fertility test that's come back normal when we were trying to concieve our 1st child. So I've been looking into clomid as a possible solution to help my cycle issues this time around. I've spoken to GP and the only thing they can do is rerefer back to fertility which we are not entitled to any help as we already have a child now. But the 12 month waiting list seems horribly daunting. I am looking at having a consultation with a private GP and seeing if I'd have better luck. Does anyone have experience with this? X

I had to go through fertility with my first born and again for this pregnancy, we used letrazole first time round and Clomid second but Clomid didn’t worth so switched back to letrazole. My understanding is that it is only a fertility consultant that can prescribe them GPs are unable to regardless of if they are private or not. If it’s purely for irregular cycles have you spoken to the GP about getting Medroxyprogesterone? These help bring on a normal cycle I had to use this a few times as I have PCOS therefore period were few and far between! X

Apparently gps can prescribe but it's down to the gp. Ours refuse anything to do with women's health, you have to see gyne and fertility. I've had every test done over the last year and everything comes back as normal. But I did ask for anything to just bring on a cycle and again they refused. Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to wait to complete our family.

It was a long waiting list for us also and we have done it twice. The first time we started our journey privately. I know it’s expensive but if you can get your test results and pay for an initial privately usually about £250 they might offer some guidance

I am happy for you to PM me as I’ve been through something similar and just been given the go ahead for clomid x

@Shannon I ended up having a private gynaecology appointment and he also suggested clomid but was unable to prescribe. So I don't know where to turn without having to wait a year as that's also what he's said I have to do.

Strange, they can describe Clomid! I’d try another consultant, although I know this incurs an extra cost. It’s really hard x
