You can talk to your pediatrician about a calcium supplement. There is also calcium in almond butter, broccoli, certain breads, oranges. My toddler used to refuse milk too and she also hates cheese so I’ve done some research. I also used to add milk to pancakes, oatmeal, eggs and she’d get more calcium that way too. Hope this helps!
Milk isn’t a nutritional requirement at this age. Chat with your pediatrician if you’re concerned, but kids get very picky at this age - keep encouraging him to eat a variety of foods as best you can
I wouldn’t worry too much right now and try again in a couple of days, if he’s getting yogurt yay, maybe try some cheese too, you can google what are other sources of what he would get from whole milk. Other thing is, talk with you pediatrician before offering other milks like oat/almond to your LO, my pediatrician just told me yesterday to do NOT give almond, oat milk cuz it’s not nutritious, it’s better to take what’s needed from other sources.
Sounds like a win to me. Maybe introduce baby to Ensure WITH solid foods now!
Thank you! I’ll stick to the solids and yogurts, and found other sources for calcium and iron! Some say it’s because he’s teething and using a bottle or zippy cup hurts … I’ll give him time! Feeling more relieved after reading you all !
It’s quite common for some one-year-olds to show little interest in dairy products. If your child isn’t keen on milk or other dairy foods, there are plenty of alternative sources of nutrition to ensure they’re still getting the necessary nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, and protein. You might consider plant-based milks (like almond, oat, or soy milk) fortified with calcium and vitamin D, or other non-dairy options like fortified cereals, leafy greens, tofu, and beans. I would call your pediatrician and ask for alternatives if your child is not interested and you want to ensure they get those nutrients. Honestly….we don’t really consume a lot of dairy in my home. I find milk to be beyond disgusting and will only use it in baking but I generally find substitutes.
