Sweep stories?

I'm pregnant with baby #2 and in both pregnancies I've got low papp-a. With my first I was just booked straight away for an induction at 39W. With this pregnancy my consultant said she'll book me in for a sweep at 38W and if nothing happens then I'll go in for an induction at 39W. Does anybody have any experience of sweeps? After thinking about it I don't think I want one. We have a one year old and a dog that we need to get looked after and if I spontaneously go into labour I just don't want the stress of rushing to get them picked up/dropped off whilst in any sort of pain. I would rather just be booked in for the induction, have a date, know where I stand, have a plan in place and just go from there. Is this a valid reason to decline the sweep? Anybody have any sort of experience in this?

You can decline the sweep without any reason if you want. I have a high risk pregnancy, very fast delievery (under 2 hours with first) and bleed a lot previously so will likely go for induction to avoid going into labour at home with a toddler unless of course it happens spontaneously.

@Catherine that's how I feel. If I can avoid any sort of spontaneity then that would be ideal. Obviously if baby comes when he wants then that's fine but if I can have some sort of touch plan, that would be better!

I asked for a sweep with my first as was 39+6 and having irregular pains. Midwife repeatedly checked if I was sure and wanted to check cervix first, which is when we found I was 3cm already so didn’t have a sweep in the end. You don’t have to have a sweep at all & can go past due date without one - it’s not a fool proof method of induction so a pain to have unnecessarily if you don’t want it. Have a look at ‘the birth uprising’ on Instagram they have loads of great info around inductions and right to choose
