When do dogs start noticing pregnancy?

Hello!! I’m 5+1 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I have a 6 year old Golden Retriever. I’d looove to know when dogs start detecting pregnancy? Thank you! ❤️

I’m 35 weeks and my dog has no clue - he’s a 5 year old Staffordshire bull terrier, he’s never had great sense of smell so maybe that’s why 🤷‍♀️🤣 xx

Your dog probably sensed it before you did! I’m reading a book called dogs, bumps and babies and it said that dogs sense of sound/smell means that it can sense hormone changes new heartbeats etc well before we even notice we’re pregnant- it’s just they don’t know what these changes signify or mean.

It’s slightly different but my puppy who was 5months old at the time started really playing up when I was 39weeks pregnant… I ended up in hospital for reduced movements and two days later my little boy was born it’s like he could sense something was wrong and it was time for my little one to come (ended up in a section) he was super clingy to me and just kept barking and being naughty.. even thought he was a puppy it was not like him at all xx

My dog (2yo cockalier) started getting really cuddly and putting his head on bump with lots of licking, sniffing and nuzzling from about 6-8 weeks onwards. I’m now 26 weeks and he gets very freaked out when he’s cuddling bump and gets kicked in the head by the bubba. XD

Can be as early as 2 weeks after conceiving. My Aunties dogs sensed it before I did tbh. I found out at 4 weeks. Every dog is different though. Now I’m 21 weeks and they sense it more than ever and my partners parents dog is always lying on my belly. They sense hormone changes, changes in behaviour and a different scent can also hear baby’s heartbeat.

I’m 24 weeks today and my dog is 8 months old and he is the first living thing I told I was pregnant but I don’t think he had a clue what I was saying but recently he saw the baby moving so I think that’s when he noticed because he’s always cuddling my bump and watching baby move

My 5 year old spaniel cross has g got a clue 😂 the cat stopped biting me quite early on though so I’m guessing he knows 😂

I don’t know facts but my dogs knew early on. By 3 months that got all weird and didn’t like to leave me alone😂. If I went downstairs to do laundry they followed me. I used the bathroom and they followed me. I would go lay down they both guarded the door. On the couch… they formed a fortress around me. They were extra loving during this period. If you have a baby room they will get curious. Personally..I allowed them in. They sniffed around and started to find their place in this new room. My son is now 4 and the big dog likes to sleep with him or guard his door at night.

My westie stuck to my stomach the entire 1st T. Very lovely. Not so much now I’m in my 2nd, but I think that’s because she sensed I was nervous at the beginning ♥️🐾♥️🐾

My dog was the reason I did a test 😂 he became so clingy to me I couldn’t even go for a wee without him coming with me, I was 8 weeks when I found out x

My dog was really clingy with me before I found out and he’s not clingy atall infact he barely ever wants to know us unless we mention walkies xx

My cockapoo has always been clingy, but never gave me any indication that I was pregnant and we didn’t find out until we were 8 weeks. Since having the baby my dog now prefers my husband, it’s like he thinks it’s all my fault he now has a toddler to live with!

I'm 39+3 and I'm pretty sure our Chowski is none the wiser 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 40kg dog and still tries to sit on my knee x

When i was pregnant with my 1st, my German Shepherd Dog Schmichael knew before i did and i found out at 3 weeks. That was 2012. This dog couldn't of given a crap about me being pregnant and i was so worried how he would be with baby. The second he saw her.....he became her dog. He was 8 last sunday and she is 11 weeks tomorrow X

My dog started being more reactive (wanting to eat the delivery man!) before I even knew I was pregnant, he is very protective of me now! Doesn’t seem to acknowledge the bump though!

My dog knew I was pregnant before me, he wouldn't let anyone come near me he was super protective but didn't acknowledge the bump until I was around 7 months, he'd cuddle up with me and put his head on my bump and his ears would twitch when my son would kick and move about he'd sometimes look at my bump and do the head tilt thing from side to side 🤣

My dog had no idea either time, my cat however became the clingiest most annoying cat ever 😅

I was going to say that your dog probably already knows whats up 😂 some people's comments about their dogs not giving two hoots is making me chuckle 😆 mine is a boxer so already follows me to the toilet, but when I'm pregnant she insists on trying to sniff the toilet paper after I've done a wee 😂

I think my spaniel knew but just didn’t care? 😂 she would very occasionally rest her head on my bump, nothing noticeable until the very end she became very clingy and a bit nesty herself. And same as someone said above always following me to the toilet and obsessed with my knickers 😂 they’re so funny! I think the more protective dogs show more instincts around pregnancy seems

I have two dogs, a male harrier hound and female terrier and if either of them noticed, they didn't act any differently 🤭

I think when you have a noticeable belly. My golden didn’t act differently, just my Jack Russell did. She would snuggle up to my belly and cuddled me a lot

I have two dogs and neither seemed to notice or care 🤣
