Thank you I’ve just given him some nurofen now and I’m gonna get him an appt with docs asap, he has to have it in a bottle or he won’t take it xx
Paracetamol alone never does the trick for my son I agree with Bethan ibuprofen alternating with paracetamol is the only thing that helps but as scary as they are (and I know how worried I get when my boy gets a fever) they're not necessarily the enemy since they're trying to burn off any infection that is going on in their little bodies. I was told by a couple of doctors that as long as it isn't crazy high it can be very beneficial to helping get whatever infection is there out of their system. When I was told that it made me feel a bit calmer about them when they do happen xx
Arlo only ever settles with a temp after having Nurofen. I find calpol rubbish for fevers 😅😂 But also, don’t panic too much about a fever if he’s otherwise eating and feeding ok. The body should sort itself out. I was always told not to medicate a fever unless it was over 39°c (overnight I would give meds anyway) as it’s a natural way of the body fighting off infection. Hopefully he’s feeling a little better today xx
If you give him Calpol and Nurofen (paracetamol and ibuprofen) and the fever persists then call 111/go to A&E.
Thankyou everybody taken him to the doctors and he has tonsillitis so that’s what is causing the temperature it was fine when the doctor took his temperature but she just said to keep rotating between falpok and nurofen xx
Nurofen alternated with Calpol is good for fevers in children. So two hours after Calpol, a dose of children's nurofen. Then Calpol at the point you would usually give it. My step father is a senior nurse prescriber and always recommended that for fevers that wouldn't come down on Calpol alone. Keep his fluids going too
