Hello all mama's

So i have been told to expect that my baby will have a clubfoot. They haven't confirmed this yet but I started doing research straight away obviously. Is there any information you as a mama could pass on? Even things about what clothes do you find it easier to dress your baby in, do I need to buy different things for the house. I'm 15 weeks now and I'm trying to do my lists to figure out what I need to buy and I don't know if it changes because of this. So any information will be great, thank you all x

I'd say it's not as scary as you imagine it will be. They can't fully confirm the diagnosis until birth and when a Dr or physio can feel the foot and see how it behaves. It terms of clothes for the cast stage you may need to use slightly bigger clothes to fit over the cast and then when you get into boots and bar you can't use normal pjs as you need to have footless (so we've used a long sleeve vest with trousers). I'd suggest you don't buy too much as buy as you go so that you can see how everything goes. Also (and this may not coincidence with your plan) but breastfeeding solves everything- during casting, after tenotomy, during difficult nights. It's the easiest way to comfort a baby

It will be a baby boy so I assumed clothes wise short sets would be the best. Yea ill most likely buy footless pjs and sleep bags too. Breastfeeding I can't say 100% I will because my first baby didn't want to and tbh it was nice having someone be able to feed the baby aswell not just myself

My baby is a month old and we’re on her 3rd set of casts for bilateral clubfoot. Onesies are the go-to for the casting period. Also leggings to cover the casts. Makes them comfier when you’re holding baby and also keep any mess off of the casts themselves. We also love the embé brand for leg-out swaddles. Highly recommend baby headphones to protect their ears and keep them calm during cast removal. It can be quite loud. I found a lot of helpful info from the Instagram account @elabobak - she has great reels showing her son’s journey.

I had only children so have bought very little and just used there things. So day clothes became night clothes to save us wasting money. You may not want to put yours in shorts though in December.

For the casting stage I would suggest these. If winter I would try and find leg warms or cast warmers

That's helpful thank you🥰 Whats the first one called? Is it just a swaddle? But once casts are on would my options be okay?

Now that we are in 16hr wear. Zippys are the way to go as well those button bodysuits are hard to find.

Yea i figured Rompers, footless sleepsuits and leg warmers would be a must. These have been really helpful thank you. Happy for any suggestions you all can pass on😊

My son had 5 weeks of casts (starting at 12 days old) as he had bilateral clubfoot. Then he had a tenotomy in both feet, then casts for another few weeks. Then he had boots fitted. The best thing I found for my son once he got abit bigger was sleep sacks as they covered the boots nicely. I wouldn’t go buying a bunch of pants for the first few months as they’ll likely go to waste. Long socks (with the grip underneath) so they can go under the boots and over the top. I put my son in legless bonds suits under his sleep sack for sleep so it’s easier to do a nappy change in the night. It’s easy for them to wear soft pants with casts but not so much with the boots and bar. This msg is abit all over the place I’m just sitting here trying to think of different things we tried haha

All of the above photos are great, except you might have trouble with the long legged ones with boots and bars UNLESS you can stretch the legs to go over the top of the boots (this is what I do with pjamas on cold nights) so that the pants aren’t stuck under the boots and can come on and off

So will I not be able to take the boots off for nappy changes? While I'm getting them re-changed? It will only be 1 foot i dunno if that makes any difference

Unless you use pull ups (which don't seem to start till they're about a year,) you actually don't need to remove boots and bar to change a nappy and that would make it take a lot longer. The only time you'd think about it is if the nappy leaked and you need to change trousers

Yeah you wont need to take the boots off for a nappy change. If you need to take pants off to change the babies clothing either find pants that can fit over the top or try to avoid pants all together. Otherwise you’ll need to take them off and put back on. If you’re just changing a nappy you won’t need to remove them at all. And being one foot or 2, doesn’t make a difference as your baby will still have boots on both feet not just one. Possibly just the casts on one foot though
