Beware! Lesson learned…
Best advice I’ve received (but was too late) is “get pregnant with the right company”! Ladies, I had to learn the hard way and I hope no one ever ever ever has to go through the stress and anxiety on top of post partum feelings that I dealt with. Long story short - the company I worked for was pretty sneaky with a very important policy that I will now look out for in future pregnancies. During my maternity leave, my company covers and pays 100% of my insurance/premiums. (NORMAL). Sneaky part - I need to pay them back my half (this is the amount that I pay towards my insurance that comes out every paycheck). Although it stated in the handbook, “A payment plan will be discussed once employee gives notice of the start of leave”…that never happened. I felt completely blinded and absolutely stressed with a debt OVER $4k.
There is much more to this story, but like I said. I hope no one has to deal with some sneaky shit like I did. A pregnant woman should never feel taken advantage of. So please please ask the right questions before your leave and make sure you set up a payment plan so you’re not in debt like me. Feel free to ask any questions because I’d love to help on this topic!! 🩷
I also think you should call a lawyer. They can't get away with this.
