Clothing sizes for baby

What are people buying in preparation for their newborn? I’ve had a look at what is recommended online but it doesn’t ever suggest sizes. Are you buying newborn and 0-3 months or just one of them sizes? Have you also purchased any 3-6 months or waiting until they’re older? I’m not sure what to buy!

I purchased clothes up to size 3-6 months, as newborn sizes are only needed for a short time. Once the baby reaches three months, I’ll start buying 6-9 month sizes, and so on. Just buy a few newborn but mostly get 0-3 months .

A few bits in newborn and most stuff in 0-3 and main bits in 3-6 I found most people who brought clothes as presents got 3-6 as they wanted something they “grow in to” 😄

I’ve got a bag of up to a month, a bag of 0-3, a bag of 3-6 and started my 6-9 month bag (by bag I mean big bag for life). Past that size I still have a lot of my daughter’s stuff that she’s outgrown that I hadn’t given away yet. My daughter was born 8lbs6 and a chunk and she was still in up to a month for just over a month. If it looks like babies going to come early I’ll grab a few newborn outfits but I tend to grow bigger babies haha x

My daughter only fit in 0-1m for the first month, was about 6lb 5oz when she was born though. Doing the same for our second

We’ve bought majority in 0-3, as he’s measuring on 90th percentile and if he’s got his Dads genes (he’s 6’7) then we’re anticipating not being in newborn for long. However we have got a handful of newborn too just incase he’s early like both his brothers (both 32 weeks). If we need more, we’ll just go out and get some once he’s here and we know his size. Also started on 3-6, and got a few essentials in 6-9 (winter coats etc). We’re not buying anymore though now until he’s here xxx

I’ve got maybe 5 0-3 outfits and the rest is all 3-6 months 🤣 because me and my partner were big babies so basing it off that.. we can always go and get more smaller if needed but would rather them be too big x

Mainly 0-3, some newborn.

I've got mostly first size/up to 1 month - my son was 8lb1 and was exclusively in that size for about 5-6 weeks. 0-3 was far too big on him. I've also been gifted some newborn sizes from a friend so I have smaller if needed.

Can anyone explain the difference between up to 1 month and 0-3 months? Why would you need up to 1 month? Shouldn’t 0-3 cover it? Find this part very confusing 😭

@Allison up to one month is usually up to about 10lbs, 0-3 months fits up to 15/16lbs. You don't have to buy 1 month sizes but I found 0-3m was far too big from birth and my son was uncomfortable in that size.

@Allison 0-3m is much bigger, absolutely swamped my daughter, same with car seats, might say from birth but doesn’t mean it’ll be small enough for birth

Very helpful! Thank you 😊😊

With my first, I wish I had a few more newborn and up to 1 month.. this time around, I've picked up a few more of these sizes. I also have a few more outfits for 0-3 month, just to help keep track of the day with a newborn and toddler. Most of the onesies and baby grows are from my first.

With my first child I made the mistake of buying mostly 0-3 bc that’s what people recommended and half of it was never used - my daughter was 7lbs2oz and was tiny!! She only fit newborn and I had barely anything🤣 I would definitely suggest a mix of newborn and 0-3, I had also bought other sizes too 3-6, 6-9 but that was just bc I was excited and had the money to do so, plus I like being organised🤷🏻‍♀️ x

@Tierney I did this too had to do click and collect for newborn clothes from the hospital bed 🤣🫣

@Megan lmao I had to do that too, and I got my dad to go and buy some and bring to the hospital bc I was in for 4 days 🙈🤣

Ive got premi, newborn, 0-3month, 3-6month and some bigger bits too that i kept from my previous pregnancies. My first baby was 8lb 3oz and was only in 0-3months for a few weeks. My second baby was 7lb 3oz and even premi baby clothes were a bit big for her x

My sister in law has just had her baby, she was measuring in the 90th percentile and ended up having an average size baby. She said up to one month was perfect as she had bought a lot of 0-3 thinking she was having a big baby and none of it fit him! So we’ve gone for a mixture ☺️
