Honestly, they’ll get used to it! We have two house cats, one of which used to sleep on our bed each night before we had our daughter in 2023, and does again now now our daughter is in her own room and baby no2 is on the way. We just make sure to close our bedroom door at night when we have the baby in with us, and never leave baby unsupervised around the cats. Sometimes it’s unavoidable for a second or two (ie baby in the crib and you’re running for a wee). We just let our cats look at our daughter, go up and sniff her, made sure we still played with them lots, gave them catnip to calm them when first introducing and allowed them to investigate the baby and know that baby isn’t ’off limits’ as such. They really weren’t that interested after a few days to be honest. Now she’s nearly two, they’re running away from her 🥲🤣 Once baby no2 comes, it’s back to keeping our bedroom door closed at night and doing the same as we did last time as to stress them out as little as possible.
My partner was petrified because we have 2 ragdoll cats known for being extremely cuddly, so we do all the precautions to ensure baby is safe ie net over the bassinet, keep them downstairs with the door closed so they can’t sleep with us during the night, and never leave the baby alone with them. We’ve found that they actually aren’t even bothered about the baby. They just give her a quick sniff and just cuddle by themselves. One of my cats is the jealous type tho and wants to also lay on me while I feed the baby but otherwise they pretty much avoid her.
I read that cats shouldn't be given unsupervised access to babies until the baby is 6months and strong enough to push the cats off. So we've always locked ours downstairs for 6m so we can relax at night and not worry
