Housing list

Hi, so I’m on the housing list in band 3 but there is never any properties for me to bid on. I’m wondering if it’s just me or anyone else have this issue aswell? Also does anyone know how I can maybe live up a band, as I live in quite poor conditions (mould is continuous and currently a leak from flat above me for the last 2 months )

I’m a housing officer and we also use the banding system. Band 3 usually means you’re lacking one of the criteria they require. Maybe you haven’t lived in the borough for the minimum requirement (mine is 5 years) or you’re not working. If you aren’t working then you’ll stay in band 3. Band 2 is where you want to be really. Band 2 is where they put you when you meet all the requirements. Band 1 is for really urgent medical cases normally. Which borough are you in?

I lived in the borough since 2011 but they changed the way they do the housing list back in 2021 where you have to reregister every year, I didn’t bother cos I was in private rented accommodation and thought there’s no point so I ended up losing all those years on the list. Recently applied again and they’ve taken it as the day I applied which was in December just gone. I’m in Waltham Forest

Ah okay, it’s probably that then. I know it’s really frustrating. Even as a housing officer I only managed to land a council flat because my grandad died. Before that I private rented for years literally. It’s annoying but try and do the whole registering thing every year so they can move you up a band. You’re in band 3 so they acknowledge you have a housing need but not really putting you in a position where you can get anything. Best of luck 🤞🏾

Really thought it was just me, I haven’t seen any houses on there from before I was pregnant, it’s seems really bad these days
