Magnesium drip

Anyone had experience having to get a magnesium drip before giving birth to help prevent eclampsia? What was it like??

Yep, I did a 24 hour drip before my eldest was born and again one after she was born. Then with my twins I was on one at 29 weeks. I was just overheated, had a fan pointed on me the whole time. Wasn't allowed out of bed cause it can cause dizziness

I had it after my son was born. They put in a catheter and was allowed out of bed for 24 hours. I felt real lightheaded kind of like an out of body experience. But I was ok

I had to do it once when I was first diagnosed with pre-e and then again once I was in active labor continuing for 24 hours after delivery. When they first started it, it sucked!!! I had chills/fever like symptoms, nausea, full body aches. Basically flu like symptoms for about 2 hours every time they started it up. But it got better. The persistent symptoms were a general feeling of unwell and a headache for me

Had it when admitted to the hospital, during labor, and after labor. 🤦‍♀️ Very hot and had dry mouth as they wouldn't let me drink too much water as you'd piss out the meds. As others mentioned I had a catheter and wasn't allowed out of bed.

I would use the BRAIN method to decide if it was right for you. Personally, id never take it again.

I had pre-e HELLP and was on the magnesium drip for 4 days. It was the worst… felt like lava running through my veins. Fever, confused, SO thirsty and not allowed to drink much. I also had a catheter and wasn’t allowed out of bed. However, it saved my life so I will forever be grateful to it and would do it all again for my little boy. But yeah, it sucks…

Had it during my induction, c section and 24 hours after birth. Felt like a bad wine hangover, pounding headache and heat flashes. I swore the IV machine would know when I was about to fall asleep and start beeping low mag. Didn’t get a lot of sleep on the mag at all and then obvi pp with the new baby. I was exhausted and a bit of a shell of myself after. I had an epidural for the induction so I wasn’t allowed out of bed but not explicitly for the mag. I was allowed to drink water tho
