Dilapan-S Induction Method

Hey, does anyone have any experience being induced with the dilapan rods, how was it having them inserted and were they effective? I’ve been to triage 4 times for reduced movements, which is why I have been offered a sweep and also an induction (I mentioned I didn’t want a hormone based method of induction, hence they suggested the rods). Each time I’ve been I’ve sat on the monitor and baby has wriggled away with no issues and the monitor has never raised any concerns, so now they are mentioning risk of still birth and risk of placenta not working properly if I keep getting the reduced movements and don’t push to get her out. I’m not overly keen on being induced as I don’t want to force the baby out if she’s not ready (my cervix was too high to do the sweep yesterday) but also don’t want to go too far over my due date as I’m due to go back to work at the start of July which if she was to come on her due date tomorrow that would only give me 10 weeks with her as it is, so I’m torn.

Dilapan rods are very effective, I had them with my current child. They are easily inserted they will offer you gas and air incase it is uncomfortable. They are in there for 15 hours and then they remove and check how far along you are. If you are 2 or 3cm they will break your waters and let nature for it's thing. If it doesn't work then they will reinsert another 6 rods and start again. Hope this helps

@Elizabeth Aneiros thank you for your comment that’s definitely helpful. I’m supposed to be having a sweep tomorrow with my midwife if it’s possible for her to do it, if not I think I will give it until the weekend to see if things happen naturally and then book in for the dilapan if not x

That's what I did, I got 2 sweeps which unfortunately didn't work they even moved my cervix forward which didn't work either so I had no choice. It's the best induction I've had ☺️

Hiya lovely ! I was Induced with the rods and it was painless and pretty comfortable. Felt slight tightness every so often buy honestly was the best ! They inserted them at 10pm and by 10am they took them out and broke my waters and labour commenced ! X
