I would really recommend going with the guidelines introducing food too early is why so many adults have stomach problems as they were given solids too early. Plus up until 1 milk is their main source of calories so wouldn’t make much difference x
Go with what you believe is right, and you'll see if it works out or not. When my baby boy was around three and a half months, he showed all the signs of readiness, so I started him on solids at four months. I was honestly amazed because he swallowed right away, and I couldn't believe how quickly he caught on. However, after about two weeks, he started going backwards—spitting everything out and not swallowing anything. I tried to stay consistent, but it became clear that it wasn't working, so I decided to stop and wait until he reached five months to try again. Which will be in two weeks, I’ll see how he’s doing because he’s almost able to sit up on his own as well 🙏🏼
When I mention solids, I am referring to Kendamil baby rice and porridge, as the box states that they are suitable for four months and older. I have been trying various purées from Ella’s Kitchen while continuing to provide breast milk and occasionally formula, as he is now being fed both. It's important to have an honest conversation with your health visitor. When she visited my son at around two months old, she remarked on how quickly he was showing signs of being ready for solids and certain milestones. However, the NHS guidelines state that babies should start solids at six months. She essentially said that these are just guidelines, so you should feel free to make your own decisions based on the information out there.
If your baby is sitting by themselves, has lost the tongue thrust reflex and has good hand/eye coordination then they might be ready. All babies will be ready at different times and not all babies will fit into the average used for the guidelines. Sometimes if a baby has bad reflux they also advise them to start weaning earlier.. so its all just a bit random! It could just be a fussy phase. My 16 week old has been very fussy and distracted on the breast.. but she's definitely not ready for solids. Just a mixfure of being nosy and teething I think!
You know your baby better than anyone else so just go with your gut! Our baby has cows milk protein allergy and we had an appointment with the allergy doctors who told us to start giving her purées (she was 4 months at the time) They said it helps when it comes to re introducing milk later down the line and she looked like she was ready to eat & so we’ve been trying all sorts of purées and she loves them! Every baby is different so you make decisions about what’s right for your baby 😊
i started my baby girl at 4 months as she was showing signs that she was ready at 3 1/2 months and she loves it she has baby porridge from kendamil and i make my own veg/ fruit purees so i know nothing extra is added shes always been a bit fussy with bottles so i mix a bit of her formula into it at the end of the puree ill give her a bit of what shes had as a solid she doesnt eat it but likes to feel it in her hand my health visitor was against the idea when i suggested the idea but when she had a gp appointment i brought the subject up and she thought it would be a good idea so i would say do what you think is right no one knows your baby better than you do x
Go with your gut Mama as long as she's sitting and has lost the tongue thrust. With my eldest his pediatrician told me to start weaning early for medical reasons, just shy of 5 months. He did great.
Go with your gut babe! I start my lb this week and he is 5 months next week x
