Advice needed

My 4 year old daughter had some sort of seizure/convulsion today, went drip white, lost all colour in face and lips, collapsed, went stiff on her side and eyes rolled for a good 15-20 seconds, went to the hospital for them to say her obs were normal, wee sample came back normal, blood sugar was perfectly fine so I have no clue what to think. Has this ever happened to anyone else or the children?? Was it a febrile convulsion? Will it happen again? I’m absolutely terrified of it happening again😣

Only neurosergion can diagnose a seizure. In the hospital they look at things only on the surface and they often send people with serious problems home just because there's nothing showing on the standard blood work

Thankfully I have no experience of this with my daughter, but my little brother did when he was 3. It was awful. I hope you’re okay 🩷 it happened only the once, never again. He’s perfectly healthy now years on. Obviously I’m not a professional and can only speak from experience, if you’re worried then book an appt with your GP for reassurance and get any questions answered. Chances are, your little girl is all good and if not, you would have been informed of this whilst at hospital 🥰 x

I’m so sorry Mollie. That must have been terribly frightening. If you can, please ask that an EEG be performed if it has not already. This is imaging that can monitor for seizures. Kiddos can have one off seizures. And even if they have more than one, they can grow out of it. From my understanding, a febrile convulsion happens when a person has a fever or sick. Was your child ill?

It sounds like you have more questions that need to be answered. Can you reach back out to the doctor and request an appointment to discuss the results of testing in detail? I’m so sorry again

Hey! My son has had these, they called them febrile convulsions and he’s had about 5. I’m happy if you want to message about his experience! My son had ECG too and all came back normal but still had the seizures only associated with a high temperature

It has been quite a warm day and she was in jeans and a top so not in the summeriest of clothes so I don’t know if that was a result of it happening, she’s not ill, she has no infection as her wee sample came back clear so it’s just a case of keeping an eye on her but my mind is going over drive atm

Yeah of course, the doctor told me the outside temperature wouldn’t usually cause it it’s the body temp shooting up too quickly. Oh bless her, if she isn’t poorly then defo go back to your doctor to push for an ECG, Noah’s came back fine too so we then were just told the same for each one. I was paranoid about them for years but if it is febrile then they outgrow them at about 5/6

Did she have a fever? That’s usually the cause

@Cassie no she didn’t, she was fine in herself all morning x

I will mention that she did scratch herself on a sweeping brush outside while playing and then we put a plaster over it and literally two minutes later she collapsed, so I don’t know if it’s linked. It’s all just so strange

My 3 year old has had 4 febrile convulsion, each has gotten worse and lasted longer. Her first one was just her going limp and loss of colour for around a minute, then she came through. Obviously it usually happens when their temp goes up quite high too quickly, which indicates an infection. But if they tested her wee and blood and it was clear I’m not too sure. We’ve had to call an ambulance for 3 of my daughter’s convulsions, and it never gets easier. Maybe keep an eye just to see if any signs of infection do creep up now!x
