Getting pets used to newborns

I have a 2 year old cat at home and ever since his brother passed last August, he has had all of the attention and has become more attached to me. We're about to have our first baby and I'm worried that he may run away or return back to his nervous self, does anyone have any recommendations on how to help them get used to eachother?

I put baby stuff down so my cat could get used to it and I washed the clothes etc so she could get used to the smell then when I bought my baby home I just put him near her and gradually upped the time. I let her sniff him and what not and after a week or so she got used to it. The only thing she still doesn't like is when he cries but she used to run off ... Now she'll come over and rub her head on him to check he's okay

Another thing to add to the other comment, play baby crying, grunting sounds etc and give cat treats and lots of praise when cat doesn’t react. It’ll associate it with positive things and the cat will be okay when it really does happen if you are consistent with it, do it like every day

We had a terrible experience with our shy cat and my newborn a few years back, he got so stressed and cost us a fortune in vet bills. Feliway do calming plug ins and a spray, I’d definitely recommend those. Xx

Thanks for the advice everyone, will start working on them and hope for the best 👌
