Allergies???

Sorry if this seems obvious. I'm very new to allergies as fortunately I'm lucky to not suffer any myself, but is my little one having allergic reactions, or is it just contact irritation from the foods being all new to him? The first images are from banana. These however came up the following morning, and the pharmacist suggested it could be teething instead. The next time we tried was yesterday and the red marks were there within about 5 minutes I would say and they almost had little spots in the centre of them. Photo in comments. The marks the second time around did disappear in about 30mins. The other image is marks from the 3rd day of trying dairy?? He does also react to aveeno oatmeal cream and comes up in a rash across his body. Any advice would be much appreciated. (I am going to see the health visitor tomorrow to ask them aswell) Thankyou!!!

Only thing I can offer because we've had reactions is to not introduce anything new if you've had a reaction for 3 days so you know whats causing it

@Lizzy thankyou. Yeah I'm trying to do one food at a time to really get to grips of what he's tolerating. And to do allergen specific foods for 3 days in a row to see if a reaction doesnt happen straight away. The time between the banana instances was at least over a week. It is daunting though!

The yogurt picture I'd say is most definitely an allergy type reaction. And maybe the banana possibly too. Keep them out of the diet for a week or so, then as long as the skin is clear, try one of them, and see if there is a reaction. If you do get one, inform your GP and ask for a referral to the allergy clinic

I am afraid they do sound and look like allergic reactions. Obviously babies can go through teething and other type of skin irritation, but if you keep getting some sort of reaction within 2 hrs after eating the same food, it is very likely a food allergy. Keep a diary on the foods and symptoms. Then ask for a referral to an allergy clinic. If children are allergic to banana, they are likely going to react to kiwi and avocado as well. So just beware when you introduce those. Have you tried feeding him oats? IIf he reacts to aveeno, there is a chance he is allergic to oats. Get an antihistamine in the pharmacy. In the UK they give chlorphenamine for under 1's but you could give them another one like cetirizine which are actually better and with less side effects for children. If they prescribe you chlorphenamine, switch as soon as possible to a different one.

@𝔾𝕚𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕝𝕖 sorry to jump on! But why do you say to switch from chlorphenamine? My little one takes both piriton (chlorphenamine) and loratadine a day. Thanks

@Louise as explained by our allergist... chlorphenamine belongs to the first generation of antihistamines, which cross the brain barrier and comes with more known and unknown side effects. Second and third generation antihistamines don't cross the brain barrier, hence now they are considered to be safer. However chlorphenamine is the only one licensed for under one's in the UK and it will take a while to change. If she already got loratadine, I would stick only to that one.

@Louise thank you for your advise, yeah that's why I thought I'd leave a bit of time between giving banana again

@𝔾𝕚𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕝𝕖 hi Giselle thank you for commenting. Yeh I've starting to make a log and keeping photos of any types of reactions that come up. Funnily enough I don't think he reacted with avocado when I tried him with that from what I remember - i do have it to try again. Is it likely he might react with tomato if he reacts to banana??? No I haven't tried the oats yet, I'm a bit nervous with him coming out badly with hives with the cream.

Tomato does not crossreact with banana, but it does cause irritation because it is acid. I think you definitely need to speak to your GP and get a referral.

Also forgot to mention that if he doesn't react to avocado , it is great. Usually banana, kiwi and avicado come together but not 100% of the time.
