Need some advice

My LO is 15 months and is still on two bottles a day of milk from teats. Health visitor has advised to wean him off bottles . I wanted to know when other mums realistically weaned their babies off bottles. Was it practiced or did you wait until they naturally started drinking from a cup and what age were they when this happened !! Thank you 😊

My first had a bottle in the morning and evening until she was 2.5. I tried lots of different cups when she turned 1 and she just spat out the milk so I just let her have the bottle. We started to do a bottle downstairs as part of the bedtime wind down, then teeth brushing before bed. She has no issues with her teeth from using a bottle now so if your little one isn’t a fan of a cup or you just don’t want milk going everywhere I wouldn’t worry what the health visitor advises. Of course if your little one likes the cup then go for it x

We are in the same boat. He loves a bottle before bed and when he wakes up. I've not actually tried a different cup yet. I know people say bottles are bad for their teeth but is this because it can move them or it's bad for bacteria and teeth brushing?

Does your HV mean to wean him off bottles with teats, or bottles in general?

Same boat still for us as well, she hasnt taken to any of the cups I bought for milk (water is fine) so Im not too worried to be honest

Doesn’t want milk out of anything apart from bottle so we’re sticking with it

@Shenel hi Shenel thanks for this Did your lo have any issues with speech? My lo is 15 months but he's talking in baby language. Not saying any clear words yet. I wonder if this has a link ?

@Jay I wouldn’t think a bottle would cause any speech issues. If your LO has a dummy all the time then that can affect it and my friend noticed a massive difference when she removed her little boys dummy during the day x

@Jay I should probably add, my second has glue ear linked to enlarged adenoids which’s he’s having an op to remove in a couple of weeks and that has affected his speech, he’s not saying any words yet at 13 months. Check in with your HV if you’re worried about his speech hun x

My little girl has had milk from a cup since Feb so 13 months but it happened by accident when we went for a week away and forgot all her bottles and only had cups. Realised at 6:30 as we were getting ready for bed and wasn’t a shop for miles. She drank her milk from the cup every day without fuss so went home and binned her bottles. Our problem is trying to get rid of dummies!! Just keep offering the cup but I wouldn’t worry and in regard to your comment about speech, my little girl does not say any clear words but makes lots of sounds x

I tried to switch the morning bottle to a beaker maybe around 13 months and he hated it and then recently i put milk in a nuk bottle and he drank it. The bottle before bed got dropped by accident as he fell asleep one night without milk! So the next night i just put milk in a beaker and he just drank that too. I think the morning bottle has been hardest because my son liked to chew on the teat lol
